What is the general consensus on the date that the free agents Bosh/Lebron would have to announce the deal to sign or trade or both?? Im just thinking that it would make more sense for Toronto to come to an agreement with Bosh before the draft given their draft position but the free agency period starts July 1st. How can the draft effect the teams decision with Bosh if the draft has already happened?? Do they draft the Rockets draft the player they think the other team might want??

no effect but if a team that picks a player who is interested by raptors and it happens the team is the parnter of S&T with raptors, raptors may ask the player. in this sense, draft does impact on the deal, at least sweeten the deal.

If you saw my later post, I explained it better. If the Raptors are convinced Bosh will leave anyway if they don't send him where he wants to go, they will have to take the best offer they can from the teams he's willing to go to. I think it will become clear that Bosh is leaving, at which point it will all come down to where he's willing to go.

If, on the other hand, the Raptors don't believe he's willing to leave and sign outright as a free agent elsewhere ("leaving money on the table"), they have little incentive to sign and trade him. In that case, they could just play hardball and try to bring him back for next year. However, statements by their GM suggest they have resigned themselves to a sign-and-trade, which leads me to think they've already decided that they will take what they can get.

At any rate, I think it's unlikely the Rockets will need to trade Brooks to the Raptors. I doubt any other team will include a player of that caliber in a sign-and-trade offer. Scola can't be traded this offseason without permission because of NBA rules about trading restricted free agents.

The really interesting thing will be to see how Bosh plays this. Assuming he wants to leave, his best option is to give the impression that he absolutely wants no part of re-signing with Toronto and that if he doesn't get his way, he will sign with New York straight up. He should then present as short a list as possible to the Toronto management of teams he's willing to play for, so that whichever team he goes to doesn't have to give up too many assets in a bidding war. I'm sure Morey will discuss this strategy with Bosh and his agent if Bosh shows interest in coming to Houston.
