All I am saying that he had a choice, and he could have taken the safer road, but he didn't. He's an adult, made a decision, and has to live with it. I didn't say he made a mistake. I didn't say he should have played in Europe first. I think in terms of money and being a better player, it's best for him to jump into the fire...but only if his ego can withstand the beating.
At least you state your opinion's honestly. Why would someone root for a crappy team? That's a good question. I have no idea why I root for the Rockets despite not living in Houston. At first I thought it was Hakeem, and then when he left, I still rooted for the Rockets. Who knows, I just do, so if that's rational or not, it doesn't matter. Last season was a nightmare, because Francis hardly played, and there were so many other problems. I still watched a few of their games last year. It doesn't upset me though when Kenny makes a bad play or when the Rockets lose, they sucked anyway, I just watched because I liked watching. When they got the number one pic, I was excited and happy, and when the drafted Yao, I was concerned that he'd be a bust. When I saw him play, I was really concerned he'd be a bust. If anything, what I've seen gives me some hope, but I still have my doubts. I would love it to see Yao get to the point where he can block O'Neals shot and push the Rockets to another championship. I just don't think he has it in him. And I said hes more then good hands and a good head, he's really tall, and that counts for a lot. All I can do is look at him, see him play, and form my opinion...that's he's really not that good right now, and it would really be incredible for him to make that jump to a very good player because from what i've seen, no one's done it before. If anything, the thing that gives me hope isn't see Yao block a shot or dunk a few balls....it's seeing Shawn Bradley begin to play well, it's seeing Kwame Brown beginning to look better. That's what is making me think that Yao could work out...not because of his 14 minutes, but because other players who looked like busts to begin with and are turning out to be good players.
I don't think NewYorker is a Yao-hater. He wants Yao to succeed because he's a Rockets fan, but he's just skeptical. Personally, I think Yao can be an All-Star. Not only is he freakin' tall and has good hands, but he has basketball instincts and a passion for the game. Those are qualities that many players, including Shawn Bradley, lack. Of course there's no way we will know for sure what Yao Ming will become, but we can always speculate. I believe that his unique skills and unique size will make him at the very LEAST a good center (not just serviceable). I'm rooting for Yao all the way. How can you not? The man is coming from so far away to play out his dream. He has shown no arrogance or hate for anyone. The media creates all this hype about him and then destroys him by labeling him a bust. He is 7'6", 296 lbs, and has super rare skills suited for this game. In other words, God did not put this man on earth to be a computer programmer or a burger flipper. There shouldn't be anyone who wants him to fail, unless they are jealous people. I love seeing people with great potential reach their potential and I believe that Yao is destined to play basketball and play it well.
Did Feigen hear Yao say this, is he putting words in Yaos mouth or is he just assuming Yao feels this way?
Now that Ive read it again, I guess I can see that. Hopefully, when Shaq reads it, he realizes its a joke too.
