That b*stard! Showing no respect to his teammates who show up on time and are there working their butts off!

I really love the last 10 seconds of this clip - someone asks him a question after his rant, and then he replies back with, "HOW THE HELL CAN I MAKE MY TEAMMATES BETTER BY PRACTICING??" hahahaha

with the first week of training camp being held in austin, it is important that all players are there to build a camaraderie right at the get-go, most importantly with so many new players on the roster and new coaching staff.

yao should have just done a video message in advance to be shown at the opening ceremonies. this way he satisfies both special olympics and rockets. :D

Much ado about nothing. Big deal. So he misses media day and the first two days of practice. Great decision by yao to choose charity over some silly practices. :D

I dont think that he has a choice. He is the so-called global ambassador for the Special Olympics. He is already in China. And he is going to attend the opening ceremony of the 2007 Special Olympics (which happens only every four years just like the Olympics for non-special people ;)) And he only miss three days of picture-taking and stretching which he has been doing all summer (including his honeymoon :D )

So I would say it is a no-brainer decision on Yao's part.

so how long does it take him to recover from the 12 hour time difference? I don't think we're just concerned about him missing 3 days here. He's going to be extremely fatigued because of the time difference for at least one week after he comes. BUT he's doing this for an event that happens every four years so yea... GO YAO!

Yao is too honest. If he just call Morey and say he'll miss practise due to "personal reasons" like Eddie Griffin, people around here will be saying "omg, I hope he's OK."

    Another question:

Yao needs to play many games these days, then diretly goes to the training camp. It is easy to be injured in this situation. Now, I only hope he wouldn't have any injury when the season starts.

Jet lag typically takes 3 days to recover. So count in another day or two where he's really out of it.

Does anybody know if Yao will participate in the open practice? I went last year and was disappointed that he didn't participate because of that big toe of his.

If Yao believes he is doing the right thing, then for him, he is doing the right thing. If he is prepared to get fined, then he is prepared to get fined. None of our opinions matter.

You probably didn't notice, but that was sarcasm, in a satirical sense. It was more a rub on Eddie Griffin than anything else.

    right on!

Rockets got enough new faces for the cameras this year, and they might actually enjoy and want the extra attention.

Those disabled persons will appreciate Yao being there for them in Shanghai. It's a more noble and worthy cause. Rockets won't miss Yao much on media day, but those Special Olympics participants will miss Yao a LOT if Yao won't be there.

people get over it and get real!

The rockets management team knew about this event Yao will be attending.
As long as rockets team/owner is ok with it, that's all it matters.

The fines are imposed by the NBA as mandatory for player who missed the photo event or training camp. Rockets has nothing to do with the fines, except that they have to hand it out as the commish said so.

so, don't go blowing this up any further.
