Somebody needs to teach Yao how to get rest and be in shape at the same time. The dude apparently does not know much about off-season training.

There is still no excuse for Yao not working out every day in the gym and with a nutritionalist. If I am JVG and the Rockets I insist and even make damn sure that their is a personal trainer with him. Especially considering the endurance problems he had last year. If I get the chance to ask him a question today I will certainly ask him what his off season conditioning program is like and if he has a personal trainer or a nutritionalist.

I wonder if Yao is beta testing Word Of Warcraft 24/7.

That would explain him getting tubby.

I was about to post the exact same thing.

    Small investment to make.

If Yao can't get over his stamina problems, then it makes it hard to build a team around him.

He needs to get to the point where he can play 35 plus mins effectively on a consistent basis.

Yeah I mean it's not like Yao's going to be practicing and playing basketball for the next two months. Oh wait... Seriously, I don't see this being a problem. Yao's problems have always been being overwork and fatigue hurting his endurance. He was able to recuperate his body a little, and he'll be fine by the time training camp starts. I mean, Shaq has always been even a worse offender of letting himself go. He always comes into training camp out of shape and tries to play himself back during the season. At least Yao is playing himself back during the pre-pre-season.

If a story had come out about Steve being out of shape, he would have been bashed to pieces. But when Yao's out of shape, who cares? He's Yao, he can do anything he wants.

The future of the Rockets depends entirely on Yao. Someone needs to tell him that.

    Z,

people might be more concerned, except everyone knows that Yao needed more rest so he doesnt slumpoff in the latter part of the season.

Obviously, he has been getting rest since he is now out of shape(somewhat).
It shouldnt be a problem...he will get back into shape getting ready for the Olympics, and by the time that is over...he can start getting ready to come to camp more rested than in any other year.

Everything will work out fine...have faith.

When Jeff Van Gundy asked his star pupil to add some weight over the off-season, little did he know that his pupil would end up on the cover of Richard Simmon's latest release of, "Sweatin' to the Oldies."

According to the Chinese press, Yao is currently listed at 380 pounds. At his current weight, Yao rivals such popular celebrities as Perry "the Refrigerator" Williams, Jared "Subway Boy" Fogle, and of course, former Miss USA, Delta Burke.

People close to Yao say that since leaving the States, Yao has been feasting on a steady diet of McDonald's for thirty days straight. One anonymous source who goes by the street name that also bears his prison bar code, "crash5179" had this to say: "Yao's a growing boy. I mean, yeah, he's 7' 6" but let's face it... that steady diet of white rice and noodles just ain't gonna cut it in the NBA."

Even mighty Shaq was impressed. "People call me the Big Aristotle. But Yao, well, he's just plain big... BIG and FAT that is. If he gets any fatter, I may just have to eat him." Shaq, who has endorsements from Burger King, is listed at 7' 1" is currently weighs 340 pounds.

Yao's parents, however, are very concerned. "Everyday, Yao begs us to take him to McDonalds, 'Mommy, Daddy, let's go to McDonald's! Time for another Happy Meal'... day and night, nonstop," said his father. Yao's mother adds, "Yao especially likes the Chicken McNuggets with sweet and sour sauce. He says that it's better than any sweet and sour sauce he's ever had in China."

With his newfound weight, Yao's lifestyle is also changing. Yao has had to replace his BMW 7 series with a Frito Lay truck. The truck was equipped with the latest dashboard computer preloaded with the hit game, War of Warcraft.

Simple pleasures have also become anything but simple. Toilet-maker, American Standard Corporation, had to re-engineer their company standard toiled using props taken from H.R. Puf'N'Stuf. Moreover, with big burger meals come big other things too. To enjoy his longer stints on the potty, Yao equipped his jon with yet another computer pre-loaded with War of Warcraft.

Nevertheless, Yao's corporate sponsors in Oak Brook, Illinois are singing his praises. A representative from McDonald's said to us: "thanks to Yao, we will be reintroducing our old tagline: "Super Size It!"

Watch out America, Atkins is out and Fatkins is officially IN.

    hi Deuce,

It's SUMMERTIME. The time for chicks, flicks, and of course, McDonald's. Besides which, I have to get my post count up to the 000s. Being locked out from the BBS this past week or so was no fun.

It will be great if rox could hire a private body trainer / nutritist for yao.

as far as I can read from chinese media, yao did not really stopped training during this 'off' month. he keep on working on strength and conditioning when he was in beijing gother with some of his chinese nt buddies.

i would suspect that he is out of shape not because he just let it go, but because he does not know how to train himself 'in the right way'.

    this is a great point..

how relaible are your sources about Yao continuing strength and conditioning training?

That would seem to conflict with the reports we are getting about him being sore and out of shape after a training session with Del.

If he had been working out during the last month or so, he shouldnt be that worn out after one training session.
Irregardless, the Rockets should have someone with him helping him effectively working on his endurance....period. That was his biggest failing last year, and MUST be addressed if he is to fulfill his promise of dominance.

Perhaps he focused on strength training only without regard for cardio or endurance training.
