If he is willing to accept a role of playing 10 to 14 minutes a night off the bench from here on for a reasonable prioce, he would be worth keeping around.
I agree with everything you just said, and as a fan of the Houston Rockets it frustrates the crap out of me.
yao ming does not make any extra money for this team by being from China, we've been through this discussion numerous times.
I agree on the bench idea, Adelman has found a rotation he likes however with Miller and Hill playing together for instance. He has an idea of what he wants to see out there instead of just throwing stuff out there to see what fits. Adelman has a blue print and with the exception of a few minor moves like JJ last night or JT getting minutes, the rotation is nine strong right now. Yao coming off the bench has been something I've been calling for since the summer and I can see it happening now. The only issue I have is the Miller/Hill combo when Yao returns, which is the only reason I can see them starting Yao instead of bringing him off the bench.
Only about 5% of the Rockets advertising revenue comes from Chinese companies. Yao's financial impact on the Rockets' isn't as great as one would assume.
Well, Damn. I don't know what to say that hasn't been said. This franchise needs a star, someone to at least get excited about when there sucking. A YOUNG star. Almost all the crap teams have at least that and some may get them this year in this draft. I just hope something goes down this year in terms of a trade, otherwise, please try for a top pick. Either by trading up for one, or just being there. Oh, and some of you guys are putting a lot of faith in those knicks picks. This year we may actually suck more then the knicks.
But what about Yao's impact on Les's personal wealth? Does he have an financial ties in China that have strengthened since Yao came over?
I'm talking abou les's other revenue. He has other business revenues besides the Rockets one would assume.
Yea but the money made off merchandise is distributed evenly throughout the NBA, I read that in one of Feigen's blogs. Les' personal wealth is something to consider but would there be a disconnect if he let Yao walk? Yao helped get him in but if the investments are making money then I don't see why either side would step out.
really?? you honestly believe that Les Alexander, as owner of the Houston Rockets, isn't benefitting from all this in ways he would never benefit from Yao if he were an American athlete?? The man's global presence is UNMATCHED. You don't think owners would fall all over themselves to be anchored to that? Seriously, google "Yao Ming business" and see how much comes up. There is story after story of this man's impact as a marketing force. His brand is uber-valuable...honestly, probably the hottest global brand that has a significant presence in the United States. And that brand is attached to the Houston Rockets right now. There's no way in the world that means nothing to Les. No way. http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/04_43/b3905010.htm http://www.articlefield.com/105457/yao-mings-commercial-value-over-jordan/ http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26000671/ns/business-business_of_the_olympics/ http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/article/89106
I would imagine that was the case early on in Yao's career. But it's tapered the longer Yao has been in the league. Probably no as many new business opportunities compared to 2002 when everyone wanted Yao advertising for them. As far as merchandise sales go, the teams all share jerseys sales. So, Yao's jersey makes as much for the Rockets as a eastern conference bench player does.
Dick van Toorn should give Yao Ming a treatment. He also treated Arjen Robben a Dutch soccer player. He almost missed the World Cup because of the injury. <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Eh44IKLLeg0?fs=1&hl=nl_NL"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Eh44IKLLeg0?fs=1&hl=nl_NL" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object> On Monday he got the injury, Wednesday they started the treatment and Saturday he could already run. I really think with this kind of treatment Yao's muscles in his foot and leg will become much more stronger. Also it will reduce the chances of future injuries.
BTW he got the injury on Saturday, Monday began the treatment and he could run on Wednesday. Within a week from the treatment he could run at full speed.
