i say rest yao another game if need be.

no reason to tax him now before the playoffs with a bruise.

    let's be honest.

human bones are not built for carrying 300 plus lbs of weight in full speed, with constant accelerating and decelerating, and banging against other 300 lbs bodies.

You might be bigger and taller, but your bones are still the same bones as other ordinary humans. It's simple physics.

The overall tone in this thread is pretty shocking.

At the least, this pretty much settles that Yao will always be enduring some form of foot issue for the remainder of his career, however long that may last. He's just not physically capable of tolerating the strain excessive movement puts on his body.

My greater fear is that over the past few years, the trend with Rockets injury news has always followed a constant theme - report of injury ==> benign diagnosis, day to day ==> Clutchfans rejoice ==> sudden unexpected MRI revelation.

this isn't something to be taking lightly, especially with regard to the big picture.

I know that many of you want Yao to get his rest, but to me the PLAYOFFS have already started. We are really already in the postseason and many just don't realize how important these last two games are.

Home court advantage will mean everything for this Rockets team. Winning these last two games and then probably ending up with the second seed would be just as valuable as winning game one.

I think if Yao can't play these last two games effectively, his injury is too much for that little rest to really help him be ready for the playoffs. I think the rest will not help him as much as the lost timing and routine will hurt him.

I hope Yao plays the last two games, even if sparringly to see how his foot reacts. Sitting him now is like saying you are praying that he is better for the playoffs, but you REALLY just don't know.

QFT... and resting may just make Yao worse, as ringin09 said. Yao has had a history of coming back slow when he rests. He never produces until he gets a few games under his belt.

Nice to have a voice of reason and reflection agree. And I wish I could change my nic to 09, but then maybe I would have to change it again to 10...oh well.

I don't think the home court advantage matters that much, instead the health of our players will be more important for us. In the two series against Jazz, the home court advantages both were on our side but we still lost both two series.

there is actually no need for us to worry about yao's "injury", I bet it's just a pretext that our team fabricate to let yao rest from those games without being annoyed by the media.

You really don't think being the 2nd seed or the 5th seed will matter much in how far we go in the playoffs this year?

My point was that if the injury is serious, I don't think these two games of rest will help him much for the playoffs. If it is not serious, then taking these two games off will hurt his timing and routine more than the rest will prepare him for the playoffs I think.

With Yao's injury history, I very seriously doubt that the Rockets would play around with injury reports to keep from being annoyed by the media.

Yao's injury is not that serious.

I don't know if I necessarily agree that he should be playing, but I agree with your main premise that the playoffs have essentially already started. The prevailing notion on this board that this is somehow something to shrug off 'until the playoffs start' are painfully naive. Homecourt will be imperative for this team to do any damage.

esp. when most team not named the lakers or spurs (and they lose manu) are MEDIOCRE on the road, including us.

homecourt would seal the deal for us in the first 2 rounds this yr since we might face some bad road teams

Most of them they got right though........it is just Yao is so big and puts so much pressure on his feet, that it is very worrisome.

And homecourt is very very important....

A number 2 seed means you are favored to get to the WC finals, a number 5 means out in the first round.

    Big difference.

It is why so many of us sweat all those losses to crap teams this year.....

    Yep.

tmac's and landry's injuries last yr were day-to-day. ended up missing more than 8-9 games AT LEAST.

our team hasn't handled the injuries very well.

again, this year is like "finally we have a break." seedings are looking good "for now." injuries happen to other team also and not just us, AT THE RIGHT TIME i might add. we have to use this year as possibly the year to go far. if we play the lakers and we have momentum, anything can happen. then we can build on it for next yr even if we don't beat them.

i can feel this year can be very special considering what's going on in this league.

Agreed, if we can get the number 2 or 3 seed, and Portland get the number 4 seed, we may even avoid the Lakers....

As Portland can beat them in a 2nd round series.

the lakers will go to the finals. i think that's a fact. their depth and talent are just TOO MUCH to overcome for any team over a 7 game finals.

you think we have a lot of talent and depth, look at them now with bynum back. if bynum can get into somehwat of a defensive rhythm, they could regain their supreme dominance earlier in the season.

Yea DD, I think the percentages go threw the roof for a #2 seed advancing to the conference finals. Having homecourt makes a hell of a difference. The rockets are in the playoffs now and have a legit chance at the #2 seed.

I still have faith in San Antonio or Utah knocking them off as an upset. SA being in the 2nd round and Utah being the first (if hopefully they do match up). I don't see Portland knocking them off, Portland is a new animal in the playoffs, they'll be overwhelmed to play San Antonio. I doubt they'll even get to the 2nd round. The Lakers are almost a lock for the WCF, not the finals yet though. There's much that could happen depending on who gets to the WCF.

It's not written in stone. Of course, the Lakers are the overwhelming favorite to come out of the West, and they're the safest bet, but damn, don't just give up. You play the games for a reason. The 2004 Lakers with Kobe, Shaq, Payton and Karl Malone were the favorites against the Pistons. Anything can happen. Portland has depth and talent too, and the length and athleticism to compete with the Lakers. In the playoffs, the Lakers would probably take the Blazers in 5 or 6, but that doesn't mean the Blazers don't have a legit chance.
