Don't be silly! He'll be wearing full diving gear including the big flippers to increase the resistance and give him a better work out.
Thanks for the extra info. I figured that was the case. I was just surprised that it was even necessary. I thought it was a very minor fracture. The reason they use a screw is to help alleviate a potential CHRONIC problem. That is exactly my fear. This screw business means that the injury is more serious than I had imagined. Yes, the procedure is "routine" and not a big deal. That isn't my point. My point is that the injury is in a location that can be problematic over a career for big men. I hope I am absolutely wrong but I suspect we haven't heard the last of this.
Didn't Michael Jordan have the same foot injury early in his career? I think he broke it here while playing against Golden State. He recovered okay and had a pretty good career.
I don't worry too much about it. Yao's game doesn't involve that much jumping which, I believe, is the primary cause of reaggravating foot injury. When was the last time you saw Yao jump anyway? Many people had said the toe surgery would have greatly hindered Yao's career like how it did to Shaq. But he has come back from that injury more dominant than ever. I would be much more concerned about a foot or knee injury of players like Amare. What kind of game will he play if he loses his crazy elevation and lateral quickness?
LITTLE KNOWN FACT... BUT FACT nonethe less... YAO played last summer for CNT. Check it out...the team played Asian Games in Qatar...Yao was on the court. He also had nearly an identical summer as last from a rehab standpoint. Bone spurs were removed in June...consistent rehab followed. Asian Games were in Sept last year...World Championships begin in August this year. People talk about all the rest last offseason benefiting Yao...but his rehab schedule and playing schedule are nearly identical. What helped Yao the most was consistent work...basketball and physical prep.
Hmmm... Yao was a water polo player before he played basketball. http://www.timeforkids.com/TFK/kidscoops/story/0,14989,1172603,00.html
Yao is 25 years old, he doesn't need that much rest. Most NBA players compete year round. Jordan used to play all summer, and then come back strong in the season. Yao can too....in fact he needs court time, he has been resting since April !! DD
Chinese doctors or American doctors? We all know that the chinese gov't likes to give it's 2 cents when it comes to their star athletes.
Well, Yao is still in the States. So I assume it had to be American doctors unless Chinese doctors are allowed to practise in US.
