The fact of the matter is: James is a better player than Alston but he didn't fit with the PROJECTED team that we needed. "The whole is greater than the sum of the parts" one could say. James was instant offense and I liked his play. But at the beginning of the season, when you had Sura down, and then you signed on DA and Stro (hoping that both could be the 3rd or 4th offensive weapon), and the return of Howard, you need a stable PG more than another chucker.

I have a feeling more than a couple future 'classic moments' will come from posts Solid made in this thread. Especially after Mike James bolts out of Toronto and Alston is still producing here in Houston for years afterwards.

Solid is right. Why do you apologists want to defend our current backcourt?
Are you afraid of change? We don't need more time to evaluate our players. You could "evaluate" a Brent Barry all season, but he's never going to play defense. Vet players show who they are with a team, almost immediately. You get what you get. We need better players.

Rafer Alston is a bad defender with a bad shot, and David Wesley is an undersized defender with an erratic shot. Sura was better than both of them, and Sura is a career bench player.

We need some starters. At least one guard, and a real power forward.

You are a Gentleman and a Scholar! Anyone watching the T-Wolves game should be able to easily see the Rocket's weaklink: GUARD PLAY. Our guards are routinely "smoked." Hayes, the absence of Howard, and a decent game by Swift served to mask our other deficit: a banger PF who impacts the game in multiple ways such as scoring, rebounding, and defense. Perhaps, "team power forward" is in the making. BUT, the Rockets MUST get a tall guard who can CONSISTENTLY hit the wide open jumper. TMac creates open looks all over the court. I still say Alston does not make this team better, but worse. I don't see him as a starter, and TMac & Ming can distribute the ball as well as he can.

You're right, he's getting very little burn lately for the Hornets. Looks like they've been playing Speedy a lot more. Man, I'd love to get J.R. Smith on this team. He'd be a perfect fit. He can shoot the 3-ball, jump out of the gym and he's a regular sized SG with none of this undersized SG stuff that's been driving me nuts lately.

I'd give up a top 3 protected pick and anyone not named Yao, Tracy, or Alston to get it done.

IIRC TMac and Yao were both in game 7 of the Mavericks series last year. Actually they both had good games also. But, alas, we were severely beaten about the head and shoulders because our role players were not up to the task. This team has a chance to go just as far as the team that CD and JVG put around TMac and Yao. I don't like the way JVG has constructed this team, that I have said before. He is not the coach to utilize the skills that Yao and TMac bring to the table. They are not the type players he had in NY and IMO never will be. He has shown inflexibilty in constructing the proper role players around them. We will not go very far with JVG at the helm, but that is one man's opinion.

What the coach is doing is losing.

Want to show the money doesn't matter, Le$? Fix YOUR mistake, and do it the day after the season ends.
