    Good points JV

It still boggles my mind that the conventional wisdom, not just on this board, but the talking heads on ESPN and the internet columnists and national media in general, is that Van Gundy is going to make Steve and Cuttino go sit in the corner while MIng gets the ball 97 times in a row.

First, it goes against JVG's public statement that Yao got the ball enough, and Second, it ignores JVG's past history. He had his greatest success in New York when two dominant perimeter players in Sprewell and Houston were the primary scorers and Ewing was injured, not with Ewing being the pre-eminent threat.

...and as a matter of fact, the fans and media in nyc were clamoring to get rid of ewing because the offense seemed to flow better without him.

JuanValdez, I was not talking about the whole offense. I was bringing up the point that some people on this BBS think that "dumping it down to Yao" means that he takes the shots all the time.

I'm saying that when Yao does get the ball in the post, it creates passing and scoring options of others or himself. I stress the word "options."

And as far as "transitional buckets." Well, how to you exactly "throw the ball into the post" when you are in transition? Give us more credit than that! :)

By the way, I'm a fan of the pick and roll and the pick, roll and pass. So, I would love to see more of that.

Sam, I do NOT want that to happen.

In fact, I want the ball in Francis hands more. As long as he becomes efficient.

I want him to run this offense. But not through just shooting. But through all facets of the game.

Plus this goes into the concept of TEAM. If Yao took all the shots, well the *team* concept would be shot out of the water.

    I'd hate that.

By the way, I did not see last nights game but it seemed like JVG was just weeding out who he wants to play (rookies and newbies), regardless of the win.

    Did it seem that way?

This doesnt make much sense to me. We now have the shooters who can make the 3, we should take advantage of that. Yes, we should get some layups here and there from Yao's passes, but we should also swing the ball around the arc for 3-pointers. Did Duncan mostly make passes out of the post for easy short jumpers when the spurs won the championship? Did Shaq? no, the 3 pointer is crucial, especially when you consider spacing on the floor.

Last year i didnt notice many 3's being "jacked up". Most of them were open shots. We just couldnt knock them down with consistency. Things will prolly be about the same this year, except we'll make more of em.
