You've got to be kidding. You think we "played it safe" by passing over the most popular Houston athlete since Hakeem Olajuwon (VY) AND the best college prospect in the history of the world (Bush) to take a defensive end?? Uh.....OK.... Well, since DD has now officially predicted it....it's pretty much guaranteed NOT to happen. KISS OF DEATH
File that one alongside "LenDale White will be better than Reggie Bush" and "Boki Nachbar will be a pretty good player in the NBA."
You fail to consider that Carr was Caper's choice and Mario was Kubiak's choice. Not McNair's. And Mario was ANYTHING but a "safe" pick.
Agreed! I thought about this again yesterday, and whoever was telling me that pick was "business safe" pick--I'm thinking that's nuts! You're telling me that the Texans thought Mario jerseys would sell even 1/10 of what VY jerseys would sell? That the people of Houston would rally around Mario? They rolled the dice on building a winner for the future despite the sexy picks that were available at the time. They *might* actually have that, but their QB situation isn't looking so hot.
I'm not sure it was ever a question of VY vs. Mario. I don't think it ever got that far. It was Carr vs. every other option at QB. Once that decision was made it was Reggie vs. Mario. Some argued that was the safe pick given what Bush was suggesting he'd want in terms of salary and the uncertainty of him as a holdout.
Aaaah, that's right. That said, how quickly do you think the Saints made up that signing bonus in royalties from jersey sales? I think the Texans knew the immediate windfall they could get from jersey sales, public opinion, ticket sales, etc., but they made a decision they thought would build a winner long term. We'll see...
revenues from jersey sales are split evenly among teams, i think. i think the saints were gonna sell out anyway. they were making a statement they still wanted the team there. no doubt bush has generated buzz. the texans don't have any more seats to sell. wouldn't have mattered to them.
considering the reports about the texans worrying about signing bush, mario was a safe pick for them.
remembering the rumors about mcnair and co. really not getting a good impression of bush when he came to visit...and rumors of what he was going to ask for in negotiation.
I hate to rain on your parade Crisco but that dip**** is on the CBS pregame show every Sunday acting like he really knows WTF he's talking about. Sheesh! First Deon Sanders and now Charlie Casserly...
LOL - I am right a heck of a lot more than I am wrong.....The only one that I think I really missed on was Langhi. Even Boki turned out to be right, just as Sam Fisher who lost his sig to me over a Boki bet. And, don't get me started on Yao, I was all over drafting Yao from day 1, and he turned out ok... No Kiss of death here baby, it is all about the DaDakota Karma ! DD
I said LenDale White MIGHT be a better pro running back than Bush..and that still remains to be seen. And, Boki is an OK NBA player and again, I said he MIGHT develop into a decent NBA player, and at the top end, maybe the third scoring option. Sheesh !! DD
I think I said something along those lines, but I was more concerned with them just letting him walk and not getting anything for him. It still doesn't make any sense that the team had to pay him anyway and let him go scott free. At the very least they should have kept his rights and tried to get a bag of used doritos for him. DD
LOL - you need to take reading comprehension classes. I was speculating as to the big August 1st announcment and that it would not surprise me if that is what they used to get Roger back. That was a guess......big difference. DD
Uhh, no, that's not what you said. Some predictions: Reality: That's not a 2nd Option, it's not a 3rd option, it's more like a 9th or 10th option.
SHEESH! We also don't need to trade for Garland because Lidge will be our fourth starter next season.
OK, so I said he was probably a 3rd or 4th option, that at best he could be a 2nd option. Not that much off from where he is now....8th or 9th.....he just needs to get some time. But he is still is in the NBA and is a rotational player who is developing. And, I wish he were on the Rockets ...we could use him now. DD
