It seems like most of the city is in the Young camp...every web board I check, when I listen to the radio, talk to friends, etc....

yeah, of course they are. that's what's got to be so scary for the texans. because if they go the other direction...and VY is good to very good...they won't live it down easily.

ever is a very long time.

but honestly...it would hurt the franchise worse than a 2-14 season, i think. it would be forever the one that got away...and not many would understand that considering he's the local name.

I think that'll only be the case if the guy they draft doesn't help the team.

It means forever and that's a mighty long time
But I'm here to tell you
    There's something else
    The afterworld

A world of never ending happiness
U can always see the sun, day or night

So when u call up that shrink in Beverly Hills
U know the one - Dr Everything'll Be Alright
Instead of asking him how much of your time is left
Ask him how much of your mind, baby

    'Cuz in this life
Things are much harder than in the afterworld
    In this life
    You're on your own

And if de-elevator tries to bring you down
Go crazy - punch a higher floor

depends on what that means. the value of a franchise QB far exceeds the value of a franchise RB. in every way imaginable. but it's amplified more so when it's such a once-in-a-lifetime type situation with a local hero.

You may think that I'm talking foolish
    You've heard that I'm wild & I'm free
You may wonder how I can promise you now
This love that I feel for you always will be
You're not just time that I'm killing
I'm no longer one of those guys
As sure as I live this love that I give
Is gonna be yours until the day that I die -- Oh baby

    chorus...

I'm gonna love you forever, forever & ever amen
As long as old men sit & talk about the weather
As long as old women sit & talk about old men
If you wonder how long I'll be faithfull
I'll be happy to tell you again
I'm gonna love you forever & ever, forever & ever Amen

They say that time takes it's toll on a body
Makes a young girl's brown hair turn grey
But honey, I don't care, I ain't in love with your hair
And if it all fell out well I'd love you anyway
They say time can play tricks on a memory
Make people forget things they knew
well it's easy to see it's happening to me
I've already forgotten every woman but you --- Oh darlin'

    chorus......

Just listen to how this song ends
I'm gonna love you forever & ever, forever & ever
Forever & ever, Forever & ever Amen

If they both live up to the hype, I think people will get over not drafting Young. I'm pissed that Young came out because I'm not sure I really want the Texans to draft him. I'm not at all convinced 100% that his skills will translate to the NFL (and they definitely won't in year one) and I think our offense could be very good next year with Bush, a new coach and some added talent on the OL. Had Vince Young stayed at UT there wouldn't be a question on who they would/should pick, but now we have people saying they won't even root for the Texans if they pass on VY.

I completely understand why people want them to take VY and I think there's a very good chance that he could be a great QB. I'm just not sure I have the patience to wait. Last year was brutal. Absolutely brutal. I'm afraid that we have at least one more season, if not more, of that if we take VY. I don't see it with Bush. I think Bush has the chance to make the most immediate impact as well as long-lasting for this team.

you can't make the argument that Bush will have a bigger impact because the other factor in all this is that rushing wasn't a problem.

running backs just don't have that much impact on won-loss record. a great running back on a good team is great, a great running back on a bad team still leaves a bad team.

I find that assertion highly suspect, especially given the type of player Bush was. While he was no doubt fantastic, he wasn't the engine that made the USC offense go - it was Leinart and White and their sledgehammer OL, who were brutally efficient. Adding in his jack-of-all-trades skills made them unstoppable. As a player who flourishes in the open field, it's a lot tougher to get into it with a miserable OL and a flawed QB.

Given the right breaks, the Texans could triple their win total and still be roundly mediocre. That's the only kind of "winning now" that's plausible with the sad sack crew that Chas C. assembled.

i hear ya...i disagree, but i hear ya. i don't think reggie bush makes this team that much better next year. i don't think we're so weak at RB that adding him changes this team from a 2-14 team that invents ways to lose to a competitive team.

Well, I don't think he would be used primarily as an RB. I think he'd be used as an WR as well. This is all considering we make some improvements to the OL...an OL that only gave up 25 sacks the last half of the season. Not great, but not exactly worst ever material.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to be upset if we take Young. I'd just a) rather have Bush and b) I'm absolutely dreading the non-stop debate that will occur over the next 3 and a half months. I'm predicting I will bash my head into my wall or steering wheel somewhere around February 3rd.

Exactly how I feel. Especially the endless debate and all of the "I'm not going to root for the Texans if they don't draft who I want." Ok then, see ya.

25 in a half season = 50 in a season. I'm pretty sure that that would still place them at the bottom of the league. So instead of being the worst ever, they would just be among the worst of their contmporaries. I don't see much of a light at the end of that tunnel.

That's only if you don't think they're not going to address the OL this offseason.

All things being equal, you take a QB over a RB. They last twice as long and touch the ball on every play. The difference between Young and Bush's position value in the Rose Bowl were made clear when Young threw and ran 60 times to Bush's 20ish touches. Add to that the fact that, imo, Domanic Davis is a better RB than David Carr is a QB and it seems clear to me what this team needs.

The Young pick reminds me of the Ming pick, both are PR and Marketing winners. How many fans would Young put in the stands in HOUSTON? Reliant may sell out to UT fans alone. The Young pick makes more sense businesswise than footballwise. The Texans have a huge investment in Carr and Young will take time to develop or will he? Is it really true that Young's throwing motion is off and he won't be able to run against NFL defenses? I wonder. Fanwise, I would trade Carr for an offensive line and pick Young. If Young goes off to another team and becomes the league's next great quarterback, and the Texans suck for years, Houstion fans will suffer even more humiliation.
