WHY THE HELL WOULD ANY TEXAN FAN ROOT FOR THE TITANS JUST BECAUSE THEY DRAFT YOUNG?????? That is crazy...nuts!!!! Some of you people act like you sleep in the same bed as him!!!! He will be the enemy...just like all the other Houston born players playing for other teams. When we play the Titans, I hope we stomp a mudhole in his arse!!!!!!
I guess this is a good problem to have ... choosing from two big talents. It's easier when there is just one sure-fire "top pick", I'm sure. I was extremely impressed with Vince Young and that Rose Bowl was magic. I like his chances better in the pros now, that's for sure. My problem with drafting him is I'm not sure you can get much for David Carr. If you can, then I may be game ... but if you can't, why draft the position that the Texans are decent at when they have so many needs? If they lose Carr for virtually nothing, then I don't know if it makes sense. If you draft Bush, there are risks... but hard to question it. If you draft Vince, then you have passed up on the one player everyone thinks (or thought?) was the next Barry Sanders/Gale Sayers. Furthermore, you drafted a QB ... so there is the added possibility that you didn't even select the best prospect at his position, with Matt Leinart also there. Tough, tough call ... glad there is a lot of time between now and then. I'm sure the Ricky Williams + draft pick thing was made up fantasy ... but Vince and Ricky + a pick doesn't sound too bad to me. In the end, I say the Texans will take Reggie Bush though.
-Trade Carr for Ricky Williams and a 2nd or 3rd. -Draft Vince Young. -Use extra picks(saints and dolphins) on a tight end and a recieving threat. -Draft ALL lineman with the rest.
That was my ideal offseason (in another thread) !! haha I would rather have Vince Young, Ricky, DD, Andre, Dominque Byrd, etc... then David Carr, Reggie Bush, DD, Andre, etc....
Can Carr even be traded, wouldn't the Texans have to resign him first which would mean giving him his $8 million bonus? Seems like a bad move to pay a guy that much then trade him. Unless you can get the team he's going to to pay for it or work out some new contract with Carr (not sure why Carr would do this).
What smack did i talk? I said I thought Vince was overrated. I still would stick with Leinart over Young. I have a new respect for Young though.
I - like a lot of people across this state - am not a REAL Texans fan...yet. And how in the hell can there be any 100% "REAL" Texans fans yet? Just because they put "Houston" in their title you became 100% devoted to them? I didn't. They're four years old. In that time, I haven't had a reason to watch or care about the NFL. Like DaDakota, I'm from Houston but have lived in Austin since the inception of that franchise. This whole time, I've been a passive fan as a result, but right now I'm really close to becoming a die-hard fan. Unless they pass on Vince. Let me ask you: why did McNair name the team "Texans"? The same reason that the DFW Rangers are the Texas Rangers and the Boston/Foxborough Patiots are labelled New England - marketing. If he really wanted to market to all of Texas, he has his chance right now. P.S. - Any REAL Texans fans that used to be REAL Oilers fans have sold their team out over a really stupid decision once before, so don't put it past them.
Yes, please move to Tennesse all you "old Oiler fans". Texan fans won't miss you because you were never Texan fans to begin with. Anyway, I think it would have been fun watching Vince play one more year at Texas. UT would have probably repeated as NC's and Vince would have surely won the Heisman. Would have been a fun year for Longhorn fans.
Vince don' need no stinkin' linemen. It will never be a better time for Vince. He will either go to the Texan's, his home town. Or to the Titians with Steve McNair his mentor. Hey I hate greasy Bud as much as the next Houstonian but if Vince goes to the Tennesse Polecats, I'm on board. I pull for Tiger Woods, I liked Mike. well, I never actually watched Lance but I'm for him all the way. It is the transcendent personalities that give sports it's since of awe.
Yes, they would have to activate Carr's option that would pay him a $8 million dollar bonus. We could trade him after that if we want to, but instead of the $8 million getting spread over 3 seasons the entire $8 million would count against the cap next season. But, since the cap is expected to go up around another $10 million next year we can take that hit if we want to. I'm not really down with bringing in Ricky Williams and I think that rumor is BS. I would rather we just trade Carr to a team for a 2nd and 3rd, or a late 1st round pick.
What it comes down to is ... will VY's performance as Texans quarterback be more valuable than Bush's performance as running back...in other words, what gap is wider - VY vs. Carr or RB vs. Davis? I'd be tempted to draft bush and keep carr... I love VY's game. But don't these more mobile quarterbacks tend to get hurt often? Vick... Culpepper... etc. On the otherhand, having a Texan on the Texan would certainly be great! And if VY can do anything close to what he did at Texas, I think we'd have a very potent offense (if we can get some reliable offensive lineman). Plus Dominick Davis has been very good... And I also fear a sort of Rashard Lewis effect. We skip on VY, Bush turns out to be mediocre and we look like idiots having passed on a local guy... Hmmm...this is rather wishy-washy... not sure who to pick...
Or you can Franchise him this year. Let VY back him up and if he shows any improvement this upcoming season ask for compensation from a team next year in order to prevent us from franchising him again. Like what we almost did in order to get Orlando Pace and what SD is doing with Brees. Dont forget people QB is a sellers market in the NFL. IF he improve like many of you are so sure of then you he can net a 1st round pick between 10th-32nd. And for those of you who think franchise RB are so rare I leave you with one name.... Adrian Peterson.
Franchising Carr is still an option no matter what the Texans decide to do. If I were them, that's what I would do regardless of my draft plans. You pay him alot, but it would only be a one year deal.
i think vince has the better chance of becoming a true franchise player than bush. bush is a freak athletically, as is young but after watching the rerun of the USC/Texas game. Bush was left OFF THE FIELD on not one, but TWO critical fourth downs. i believe bush will be a very good running back in the nfl but won't be able to consistently carry the ball more than 15 times a game, and get more than 20 touches total. i don't think he is the type of back who can get you those 2,3 yards when you need it on 3rd or 4th down. to be a great running back you have to be able to do it all. the texans would be dumb not to draft vince young or trade the pick for additional picks. as much as i like david carr and believe he will become a very good qb with a half way decent o line, vince is a complete game changer and one of a kind quarterback.
I'm almost there with you. These threads are like a bad car wreck that you have to look at and occasionally get drawn into participating in.
Agreed... do that, draft VY, and if a Drew Brees situation starts to develop next year (which probably won't happen), it can only help us. I still think this team as is can be better next year, if they shore up some holes on the o-line, d-line, and secondary. Then, couple that with the occasional VY appearance in games where we're behind, or when Carr eventually gets hurt behind this line, and I do believe they can be pretty productive. Keep in mind that Carr was actually one of the better running QB's this year (mainly because he was running for his life). Now, you put VY in there.... and those 15 yard runs become 30 yard runs... and you could even use him as a "change of pace" QB, and run an option between him an Andre Johnson (can you imagine the look on the defense's faces when they see these two HUGE guys running towards them?!?). Seriously, I'm giddy that nothing has been finalized yet... there's actually something to focus on in Houston sports right now... cause god knows the Rockets aren't doing anything, and the Astros already made their big FA run.
Dude - Its not about making money at this point. He is committed to winning, and Reggie Bush is what this team needs. The sooner you accept that, the sooner you can start enjoying the future!
