What kind of accomplishment is blowing a 2-0 lead with three games at home, and losing a game 7 by the largest amount in NBA history?
Umm, I think I was referring to coaches who have taken their teams to the final championship and were unable to win. Bill Cowher, Tony LaRussa, and Jeff Van Gundy are three examples from three different sports. I don't think LaRussa is any less of a manager than Torre, Cowher any less than Gruden, or Van Gundy any less than Tomjanovich. Rudy's my favorite all-time coach. However, I refuse to use that as a justification to bash a coach who is a hard-working, successful coach. BTW, everyone takes the blame for that series. The coaches and the players. No excuse.
van gundy is just so annoying with his interviews...edc is right, the guy is killing us. who will replace him at the end of this year?
You want to give Van Gundy all the credit, he takes all the blame. It is the job of the coach to ensure things like that don't happen, and indeed, they have never happened before that Dallas series.
With all due respect... are you nuts?? The '82/'83 Rockets were 14-68. Their leading scorer was Allen freakin' Leavell. (14.8 ppg) They drafted Ralph Sampson after the season. The '83/'84 Rockets were 29-53, with Sampson scoring 21 and getting 11.1 rebounds. Then they drafted Akeem. The '84/'85 Rockets were 48-34, with Sampson leading scorer with 22.1 and Olajuwon averaging 11.9 rebounds. This was the first season they both averaged over 10 rebounds per game. Ralph was MVP of the All Star game, btw. Akeem was a rookie. It didn't make a difference? The '85/'86 Rockets were 51-31, clobbered the Lakers in the WC finals, and lost to possibly the greatest team of all time, the Celtics of that season, 4-2 in the NBA Finals. The pundits will say that the Rockets were no match for Bird's Celtics, but they gave them hell, until their inexperience caught up with them. No difference? Steady improvement, shocked the NBA by knocking out the world champion Lakers, and took 2 out of 6 from that Celtics team in a very hard fought series. There was blood on the floor, buddy. Did you see it? That first season together, when they both averaged over 10 rebounds per game, the Rockets were 48-34. They made a vast improvement. Again, with all due respect, I don't know what you're talking about. I don't think you do, either. With all due respect.
And that is why you have got to love him......lol He doesn't buy into the hype nor let his players get caught up in it... JVG......KEEPIN' IT REAL!
One reason I am so optimistic about this season and excited about our off season, isn't just what we gained(Swift, Anderson) it is what we didn't lose(Barry, Mutumbo, Wesley, Surra, etc.) To gain that much and not lose any of those players is truly amazing. It was sad to Padgett go, but understandable. If we do trade one of those players later to make the team better, that will be understandable too. But for right now, it is amazing to make the additions we did without more subtractions.
