With the exception of maybe Duncan, none of these players have been double and triple teamed as often as Yao. Ever heard of Eddie Griffin? Eddie gives Garnett trouble every time. Garnett has to rely on his outside shot more often than not. I am by no means saying he stops Garnett but he definatly slowed down by just EG. Ever heard of perimeter denfense? If Rudy T ever coached any last year Kobe might not have had the oportunity for that. Kobe is great but if we had any thing other than our lush defensive backcourt plays like that could have been prevented.

    thegary,

I understand your point and agree that this year we should see Yao being treated more like Shaq is. But last year, I find it hard to say that it was even comparable in the way that both defenses treated the two. Mainly, because one was mostly finesse while one was mostly power.

    EGN,

You seriously have an anger problem, on top of your silliness. No need for physical threats.

If missing the playoffs, despite rebuilding or even having an above .500 record, means a coach doesn't deserve a job, then there is not a coach in the history of the NBA that meets your standards. I guess all coaches stink then.

By the way, egn. Codell is one of the most reasonable posters on this board.

No need to be rude to him.

    That's true.

But I see you are coming around on JVG! :)

I fully support JVG and believe he will do a good job, although I wouldn't say he is any better or worse than Rudy and feel Rudy had a damn good shot at making the playoffs himself this year with the changes we have made. They just have different approaches to coaching. Same holds true for just about every coach in the league.

Its like I told MFW in another thread, some coaches look like geniuses when coaching certain types of players, and then look like failures when coaching other types of players.

The day JVG was hired, someone on here reminded us that "change is good" (can't remember the poster). I fully agreed with that. Sometimes you just need a new face barking in order for the players to finally grasp concepts.

yeah, future hall of famers never find their way to the basket.

as to the rest, A-Train has already made my points and with fewer words and far more humor.
