Anyone who puts in 7 years of training and intership on top of the normal 4 years of undergrad studies does not need to be reminded of whether he's qualified just because he benefited from AA. Medical school is on another level and those who survive don't survive by luck.

OK, Richirichi, CCR when I said "style" I meant his theatrics. I by no means meant me was classy. FAR from it.

So just because you can't explain it - it must be because of his race????

I don't think it has anything to do with race. It has to do with the similarities Yao had with Shawn Bradley which he has never quite shaken. You can thank that, and not his race, for the harshness he gets.

Yao gets criticism because he does his job so methodically and without much flare.

He is not a quick player who makes dynamic plays, he just continues to make good plays....sort of like Tim Duncan...whom they call "The big fundamental" which is a bit of a slap at Timmy, IMHO.

Yao is great, but just not very exciting, if you are not a Rockets fan.

I love 26+ ppg and 10+ rpg.....those are very Hakeem like numbers.

    YAO ROCKS !!

good post. i think certainly yao's uniqueness and lack of flair hurt his image but it's no reason to bash him. there's a splash of racsim in the media towards him and for me that's a fact.

i think it was the bulls game after yao ripped shaq a new one, i was watching the pre-game stuff and reggie miller was just having at it about yao SHOULD be this and yeah he's scoring but so what, he's big and we EXPECT him to do that, blah, blah, blah." shut the f$%k up reggie miller. yao has FAR FAR exceeded the expectations of every single nba analyst who opened their mouth on draft night. even the ones who liked him.

Asians and whites aren't necessarily smarter than blacks and hispanics. education systems, standardized tests, and the social environment can be culturally biased to help some students achieve better scores and prepare them better for what colleges look for. standardized tests can be culturally biased. Also, to say that asians and whites get the short end of the stick is not entirely true. Asians get the short end of the stick more so than whites. According to studies done at princeton, white students still hold the majority of the spots available for admission. These universities hold a few spots open for "people of color". To add diversity, slots held for more than over qualified asians are given to black and hispanic students. Im not saying that these black/hispanic students do not deserve these spots, but i feel that they should not take these spots from other people of color. There is a whole article about it in abc news. I have provided the link below.
