IF that is the case, I think we can look forward to one JVG being given his walking papers at the first sign that this team is not going to be a contender. That should happen somewhere around mid-December.

Yes, I am that pessimistic about how this team will shape up.

If Yao and Tmac are healthy, and with even last year's roster we were 60% winning team, with Battier we will be even better.

Now if you add in V-Span and Mike James, we are in the hunt.

I've been an outspoken defender of JVG in the past. But if he was the main impetus for this terrible trade, all I have to say is...

BURN, BABY, BURN. TWIST IN THE FIRE, YOU SOB.

The good old "Ya I would have played him after the fact" quote.

I don't want to be one of those guys who thinks everything the Rockets say is a lie, but they aren't convincing me otherwise at all. Both JVG and CD said they wanted to add size, athleticism, and youth to the team, we got all of that in one player and didn't even wait 30 seconds to deal him away, and then you give up our backup PF just to make the salaries work.

The fact is that JVG said he wanted to trade the pick for a veteran 2 weeks before the draft and that's EXACTLY how it played out. I found it very hard to believe that it was only CD's and Morey's decision like JVG is implying.

Kind of funny how CD is making it sound like it was JVG's decision and JVG is making it sound like it was the opposite. Anyone else see it like this?

They are already beginning to point fingers!!!  :(

Yesterday CD told the press the trade went through coach (JVG), and today JVG said it was CD, Morey and Lindsey's decision.

F*** this managment. Bunch of fools and cowards! I am sick of this.

I know it's going to be very tough and I am going to have to really work on it. But I'm sure I'll find the intestinal fortitude to not yawn.

Seriously though, the Rox should have no trouble being a 50 win team...they'd be one with either Gay or Battier. The anger has two boiling points...the first time a starter gets injured and we have to depend on a rail thin bench...or when we get bounced out of the playoffs in the first round. In either case, management...or more specifically coaching...should bear the brunt of the wrath.

    exactly.

the rox are a playoff team without battier or gay. all they need to do is stay healthy. the problem is that we had an opportunity to add a key piece to this years team and for our future. what happens a few years down the line when tmac's back goes out completely? gay would have been perfect to step in as that dominant wing player to compliment yao. even in the interim he would be a more than serviceable 3rd option.

even from a marketing perspective this deal makes zero sense. does adding battier sell more tickets? more jerseys? generate more interest? of course not. adding rudy gay would have instantly generated a buzz among fans. nevermind the fact that he would have made us younger, more athletic, and more versatile.

my personal opinion is that we need to fire the whole lot of them. CD, morey, lindsey, jvg...all of them. even though i do not think jvg was the "architect" behind this trade (because he has never, by his own words, been interested in personell decisions), someone should have stood up and said "hey, idiots. let's not try to outsmart ourselves! occum's razor, people!"

    shortsighted and foolish.

in the recap of the jvg interview on 790 a couple of weeks ago I posted that JVG said he didn't think the draft was that good. we should have seen this coming.

yeah, he said cd & co. didn't think the rockets could land a starter with the #8 but he was optimistic/confident they would. in jvg speak they were trading the pick for a starter.

it's one of his trademark hints like when the rockets had a deal to bring in jon barry he said something someone was coming home alluding to barry since his dad was a rocket and he was a ballboy for the team.

I'm also trying to make the most sense out of this. I don't care for putting the blame on anyone.... for all I know, this might be the best move for us. So I'm trying to find the reasoning.

For one, I'd like to know what our game plan is going to be..... if we've come to the point were everything goes through Yao, then this move makes sense to me.

If everything will be going through McGrady....... then I agree we need a young baller to groom......

But if Yao is going to be our man, all we need is TonyParker-type play from Luther Head/Raif Alston......... TMac is a luxury Kobe-type player...... Shane Battier fits perfectly, he'll allow that two man game to be played between TMac/Yao, or Head-Raif/Yao, and he provides a serious threat from the perimeter the ability to score 10/5 on a team without Yao&TMac.. that's going to go up..... and he plays good defense, hopefully allowing McGrady to rest on the defensive end of the court.

I'm sure JVG was pushing for the trade, but that's besides the point. It's the GM's job to make the decision and get fair value. They certainly didn't get fair value in this case.

There is no way they can spin this to say that we made a good trade. Battier is a good player, but the point is that we should have got more for what we gave up.

Remember Jonathon Feigan is the mouth of the Rockets and he tells you what they want you to hear!!!!! The trade smells of JVG in and out of the offices of all Rockets Management.

JVG's pissing me off. He's out there covering his own ass and giving PC answers. His thoughts of always playing the best players tells you right there that he isn't interested in developing players. I think he's too shortsighted to the point where it's going to hurt this team dramatically. By what he's said, it tells you that he's the type of coach that would not play a young Kobe or Tmac since there were better players at the time that would give him a better chance to win a game. Although that type of thinking may pay off in the short run, look at what playing those types of players early in their careers can amount to. This mentality is also going to hurt the Rox because it doesn't give players a chance to build the chemistry and cohesiveness that's needed to compete for a ring, and that's why we've seen so many player changes since he's been here. I'll always be a die hard Rockets fan...but man, JVG's style and attitude are really tiring me out.

very good post. not only are they a playoff team with either one, they should be a playoff team with neither with a healthy mcgrady and a healthy yao. they are being safe for the sake of being safe. other than that, there is no logic.

JVG covering his ass. He says this so fans won't say JVG had his hands all over it so the blame will go to CD, but guess what, by the time Rudy has reached his potential, CD will be retired.

Is this JVG's last year of his contract?? Question I have, Will JVG make it through the season if things do not go well for the Rockets?? JVG sure knows how to use spin to deflect the fact that this trade was done because of him.

No ****. And if Gay was seen as too big a risk at the 8th spot (stupid, I know, but just for the, "what if?"), why didn't we pick someone else? Why didn't we trade down and get Brewer and Williams, for example? Why the hell not? And just what did we get for Swift? Not a damn thing, unless it hasn't been announced. The front office is busy pissing away building for the future. Hell, I haven't heard a good explanation to explain what in the hell they're doing?! And it's really not about Battier. I like him. I just think that deal sucks. Royally.

So no one is supposed to talk about the trade, but JVG did? Let's call the league. Maybe, as a penalty, they'll rescind the trade!

Agreed, but the potential is always there and after 5 seasons in the league, Shane isn't sh*t...But, I will cheer for him once I get over this...
