Can you imagine M. Night directing Transformers? What would the inevitable twist in the end be? Or how bout Tarantino or Kubrick or Scorcese filming The Rock...that would turn out really well. It goes both ways...Bay will never helm an Oscar worthy flick, but he does know his action...and sometimes those popcorn movies are just what the doctor ordered.
The Xbox360 came out over a year before HD-DVD, didnt it? Before and after the Wii and PS3 arrived, perhaps MS wanted to keep the Xbox360 price down to drive unit sales and thought the HD-DVD player could be sold as an add-on at some point in the future. Maybe I'm wrong, but tethering the Xbox360 to HD-DVD from the start definitely does not seem like a mistake on Microsoft's part. Even now, it's still quite possible that Blu-ray will "win" the format war and MS wants to keep their options open. I'm guessing the Xbox360 is more important to MS than HD-DVD. Concerning the $150MM, it remains to be seen how much, if any, of that was paid by Microsoft. Thanks for the post RC. If all of that is true my question about outrage is answered.
I believe Microsoft left out the HD-DVD drive because they wanted to release the 360 a year before PS3 came out. They would have had to wait until around when the PS3 was released to include the HD-DVD drive and it would have driven up the price.
I think it is around 6M 360s and 2M PS3s; we get new sales numbers soon, so I can post more accurate LTD numbers then, but that should be close enough IIRC. They claim that they didn't have anything to do with it, at least not directly (guess they could have given $150M+ to the HD DVD group, and they then used it for this deal). Not sure if many other members of the HD DVD group could easily part with that type of money (or would want to anyway), especially those that aren't already under an exclusivity contract.
Update on Michael Bay's thoughts: http://www.shootfortheedit.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2304 Sorry tinman.
Really is kind of sad I bought the House of Flying Daggers for 99 Cents on VHS and then thought . .. I got robbed! I will watch it maybe once. . . maybe even twice but will then end up buying it on DVD Rocket River I don't have a horse in this race though
Translation: "My attorneys and financial advisers have informed me that if I continue my stance against Paramount's decision, I won't be getting any more work from them in the future, so I'd better backpedal."
Paramount just announced Anchorman and Old School exclusively for HD-DVD on 11/27. "We're going streaking!!!"
the twist would be that the movie wouldn't suck. the Rock was crap. Tarantino, Kubrick or Scorcese would make much better thrillers. The thing is you are comparing a one dimensional director to the MASTERS. Look at Speilberg, he did Raiders of the Lost Ark and Shinler's List 2 completely different movies.
Are you r****ded? The Rock is awesome!! unless you're referring to the actor. If that's the case, I agree.
