I don't hire a chef at my restaurant if he can't cook... that's like hiring a w**** that can't @#$%? What's the point? Why hire a "media sales associate" without making sure he has enough knowledge about the field? But then again, I'm picky, running a business makes u like that. I'm sure Fry's, Best Buy, and CC don't even ask what type of knowledge as long as u agree to the lowest wage possible... Now Home Depot is another story. I just walk in and find the nearest sales associate and ask him my question. KCUF looking around for urself... them dudes know what's up.
at least right now afaik its impossible to have a hybrid laser that will be able to read both BD-roms and HD-roms. blu-ray gets its name from the color of its laser, blue which reads information at a different wavelength than what dvds and HD dvds use which is a red lasers. (its been a while since i took physics but i believe blue is a shorter wavelength than red on the color spectrum) the player LG has out is two separate trays, one for blu-ray the other for HD. yeah and forget about that 300 dollar price tag, the lg player just came down to 1k from 1200 recently. its going to be years until you see something at that price. it wasnt until what 2-3 years ago when one could get a great dvd player for under 100 bucks? I dont mean a poloroid cheapie but a something that has all the bells and whistles. This was what about 6-7 years after the introduction of dvds? compare that with hd and blu-ray both of which are barely a year old, if that. Plus you have to factor in that you also need a HDTV to get any use of these players, not any tv like dvd players were. HDTVs have dropped significantly in price over the past year but that also only after having been out in the market for a few years. there is no incentive at the moment to drastically cut the price because the technology is still expensive (esp from the blu-ray side) to produce and they are trying to market the players out to the 22-36 years olds with disposable incomes and of course the well off. you're still not going to find many high school and college kids who've purchased an hdtv and blu-ray/ps3/xbox360+hd/hd player on their own without help from mom and dad.
are you sure? i am almost positive that hd uses a red laser unless they've changed something recently
100% sure. You can check it out pretty much anywhere that has technical specifications for the format, including the official HD DVD site: http://www.thelookandsoundofperfect.com/index.php?page=techspecs I think it was decided that HD DVD would use blue lasers since 2004 or 2005, when most/all of the specifications were finalized. They probably would have launched much sooner had they used red lasers...of course, unless they changed other aspects of the format, it probably wouldn't be much different that DVD. Not much point in launching a new format in that case.
Hope this explains Paramount departure NY Times Confirms $150M Pay-off to Paramount Posted August 21, 2007 by Josh The NY Times has confirmed via two Viacom executives, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, that Paramount has received a $150M pay-off to support HD DVD exclusively for a period of 18 months. The $150M is comprised of cash and future marketing deals. Also re-confirmed is that the deal includes no films directed by Steven Spielberg Source: NY Times | Permalink
Hehe...even Michael Bay (director of Transformers) is getting in on this. From a message board post on his website: http://www.shootfortheedit.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2299 I'm sure he might change his mind if Paramount shows him some of that $150M though.
I KNEW IT! I knew it that the initial statement was a lie. Why do they cook up lies like that when they know that the truth will be revealed?
Michael Bay still sucks. transformers would have been much better under any other director. Christopher Nolan for sure. hell, Spike Lee would have made a better director.
I wouldn't necessarily do that. There are a ton of big name titles coming out later this year that are exclusive to Blu-ray.
$150 million exclusive for only 18 months Backlash from major directors including Steven Spielberg and Michael Bay Michael Bay Responds to Paramount's Decision: "No Transformers 2 for Me!" The director behind such films as 'Bad Boys', 'Pearl Harbor', and the recent 'Transformers' movie is upset by Paramount's decision to drop support for Blu-ray. On a post on his personal web forum entitled, "Paramount pisses me off!", Michael Bay says, "I want people to see my movies in the best formats possible. For them to deny people who have Blu-ray sucks! They were progressive by having two formats. No Transformers 2 for me!" It appears the accountants who thought the $150M was a good deal didn't take into account that they would lose one of their star directors. http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=415 Exclusive: Spielberg "Big Supporter" of Blu-ray, But Future High-Def Releases Uncertain "Steven is big supporter of Blu-ray, and chose 'Close Encounters' to be the first of his films on either format." http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/news/show/Steven_Spielberg/Industry_Forecasts/Exclusive:_Spielberg_Big_Supporter_of_Blu-ray_Future_HD_DVD_Releases_Still_Uncertain/878
I don't quite get the director 'backlash'. There were exclusivity deals before this one. You don't see directors from Universal and Fox 'up in arms'. As far as the money, I doubt most people will care. I'm pretty sure lots of exclusivity deals have some $$$$ behind them. In any case, at this rate people will care more about downloading movies than disc format. lol
That's the best news I've heard out of this. Thanks HD-DVD!! can you imagine how bad other movies would be if Bay directed them? how about Bay directing Star Wars? "Luke, I'm your.." Scene cuts to massive explosions..Aerosmith songs.. Luke's run on the death star is like a 30 second scene.. no one knows what blew up or what happened. how about Lord of the Rings under michael bay? the final battle is 5 minutes, all you see is exploding volcanos and noise
Dude say what ever you want about him and his talent as a director but the man sure knows how to whip up a summer blockbuster over and over again. Same thing with all the Jerry Bruckheimer produced movies that make a bazillion dollars. People like going to the movies in the summer for action packed thrill rides with over the top explosions and edge of your seat car chases. These guys aren't going to win an Oscar for their movies but they will have some of the deepest pockets in Hollywood. Money talks plain and simple. If Michael Bay decided to defect to another Studio supporting Blu-Ray then that would be a huge blow to Paramount. $150 million is nice but that means losing a ton of business down the road. Also don't forget Paramount has already lost Tom Cruise and do not underestimate Tom's appeal even today they guy can single handedly carry a movie at the box office. In my opinion this was a bad move by Paramount short term gain with potential for backlash in the future.
