We could probably send them Sura (who will be cut) and Lucas III as a cheap backup.

If you look at their roster they have more point guards than we do.

It's already mentioned but worth mentioning again. if the Wolves insist we take on Griffin's deal (one more year at a PO he will take) then we can still make it work without disrupting the core (i.e. Alston or Howard).

    JL3+Sura for James.
    Then in a separate trade,
    Tsack (expiring) for Griffin.

Something to keep in mind though that could be a problem is the Heat now are looking for a scorer with Wade down. They have been dandling Posey's expiring contract around the league. I believe Posey for James+Griffin works straight up. And the Heat are in the East. You would think the Wolves would want to deal with an out of conference team first.

Mike James probably has total say in what team he goes to because of the trade kicker.

It would be a slam dunk he would choose Rockets over Heat right now.........just saying.

Trade for James (w or w/o EG) but do not include the core of Tmac, Yao, SB, Rafer, Head, Howard, Hayes or Deke. If it was at the start of the year I'd prefer James over Rafer, but not midseason when Rafer has been working well with the guys the last 6 months.

Anyone else is on the table. If we get MJ (ideal bench scoring guard), we really only need both Bonzi and Snyder (though I only include one of these two if they don't try to force EG on us). Also, Novak, VSpan, JL3, Sura, Big Jake (only tadeable in a seperate one outgoing deal) are expendable..

Also, Minny doesn't really need Rafer anyway. They are trying to lesson salary committed with this move and clear backcourt PT which adding Rafer for James doesn't help much.

Why don't we just do THIS:

Trade Sura and Lucas III to Minny for James

    in one trade

trade Tsakalidis to Minny for Griffin in another trade

    cut Griffin

trade Bonzi to Detroit for Davis and Murray

    PG Alston/James/Spanoulis
    SG McGrady/Head/Murray
    SF Battier/Snyder
    PF Howard/Hayes/Novak
    C Yao/Mutombo/Davis

I mean damn that team is going to win it all.

Let me get this straight. We threw up Moochie Norris, and the Knicks made us eat him. The Grizzlies threw up Stromile Swift, and we made them eat him. We threw up Eddie Griffin, and the Wolves want to make us eat him so that Mike James, who threw up the Rockets, will have to eat them. Juwan Howard, the guy most people here preferred to make the Grizzlies eat in the Battier trade, is now too valuable to include. Meanwhile, Jeff Van Gundy wants us to eat Scottie Pippen, who doesn't really count as throw-up since we discharged him through the other end.

    I think I'm getting sick.

He has some say, not a great deal. He can only waive the part of the kicker that might block a trade that otherwise would go through. Otherwise trade kickers are not waivable by the player or team.

If he swapped Sura, Lucas III, Tsakalidis for Griffin and James, then cut Griffin

then swapped Bonzi for Davis and Murray...........

then the roster has 14 players...............

JVG may indeed be the one who is all over this, he wants another legit big (Davis), he doesn't want Bonzi really (knucklehead), he wants a "more balanced roster", he is in love with James, AND he wants Pippen.

But because he has the kicker he can choose which team he wants out of the offers.

It's just like when McGrady was being deal from Orlando, it's all about leverage.

If the player has leverage and several teams make an offer, then Minny has to say ok Mike here you go.

This is the ultimate "we don't know what we are doing" scenario.

I don't think that is how his trade kicker works.

I think it is "IF" he is traded he gets a 15% raise........or lump payment.....

Not that he has a say which team he goes to....

I could be wrong, any cap experts here?

If we can do this JUMP ON IT !

With that said I wouldn't trade howard or rafer yet like everybody else has said on the board. If we can get him for bonzi,jl3,sura any of them pieces jump on it.

This is correct. I think his trade kicker is 8%. That should not complicate salaries matching too much because deals have a 25% leeway in the new CBA.

Further, the only part of a trade kicker that a player has the option for waiving is a portion that otherwise would prevent a trade going through. The player is not allowed to waive the kicker or any part of it in any other situation.

So the trade kicker doesn't give Mike James much power in where he goes (except in very isolated circumstances as outlined), but does ensure he gets an extra chunk of change post a deal.

Would love to have MJ back, if Rafer slips on a banana before the playoffs, you guys will want him back also.

For Sura's expiring thats a deal, he's making MLE money not Bibby money and he would be a better value for that than JL3 and Vspan who we pay couple of million a year to sit on the bench and watch the game.

i hate this obssession with Mike James. he WILL NOT help this team more than he will disturb the chemistry. he has even more of a shoot first mentality than any other pure Guard on our roster. He is NOT what we need, at best he is a combo SG shooter, and in case they frogot, Head already fills that role for us. What we need is a REAL backup PG.

And honestly, do we really want to go near the Griffin thing again? I know it's just a dump, but gimme a break.
