If you think about the Rockets long-term, isn't this deal really about taking Mike James and his contract in exchange for retaining Bonzi Wells at a mid-level exception type deal next year? I don't there is much more of a market for Bonzi and I doubt the Rockets would spend a lot of money on him with Kirk Snyder under contract. I'm glad the Rockets have not closed the door on James. I could get behind a deal for him that doesn't give up Alston, or Howard.

If the price is EG's contract that puts the Rockets into contention as a trade partner when they weren't before but it's a costly price.

I think it's doable but in return Minny will need to take on JLIII's contract.

Rockets could still do the trade involving only 4 players (no Lucas) but taking on nearly 3M when they will be around 60M without adding their 2007 1st pick signed, Hayes, and a backup C is cutting it a bit too thin.

That said Rockets should insist on Lucas being added to the deal. Minny are also over the LT by a small margin so they might also insist on the Rocks taking on Bracey Wright's expiring contract in return which is nearly on par with Lucas's.

Minny add just around 530k in salary with these deals but are already over the LT threshold anyway.

    *1st trade
Sura, Bonzi, and Lucas for Mike James (and Wright, doesn't need to be in deal to work)

    *2nd trade
    Big Jake for EG

another thing Rockets would be helping t-pup's dump around 8M in salary. at the very least rockets get the option to swap 1st round picks otherwise it's a terrible deal.

I'd rather take Andre Miller if their combined contracts are 8 million

A trade is doable without giving up anything 'more' than Bonzi and still not mortgaging the Lux tax - this year. Future flexibility would be affected.

BTW - I assume Eggie = trade and bought out?

Why 2 trades when you can do it with one.

    Sura, Big Jake, and Lucas

If we trade Rafer for Mike James nothing gets solved. We'll still need a backup PG. Wolves are just trying to force our hand, but reality is they just want to throw him away.

Personally, I do not want James back. I don't think he fits into this team. If we can't get Atkins or someone like that, I'd rather just stand pat and be prepared to work Yao back into the line up when he is ready.

Two things I cannot understand on this board:
    1. The hate on JH
    2. The love on MJ
Mike James lost starting position in a worse team. He doesn't worth anyone in our routation.

I hate Mike James ... and I'd still want him back if we could get him for Sura and filler.

I'm opposed to including Rafer or Juwan though. That's way too much for Mike James.

No the wolves would do it in a heartbeat. Getting rid of Griffin's contract and Mike "the cancer" James whose contract isn't looking too good right about now would be a blessing for them. We are the ones that would be extremely hesitant before sending them either Howard or Alston.

I personally think that is the most stupidest thing I have ever seen Philly done. They need expiring contracts they need to rebuild from bottom up. Miller NEEDS to be traded. I got a feeling his there to be a bargaining chip come lottery time.

So James makes 8% more than the MLE if we trade for him AND he gets another 8% if we try to trade him..............

The main thing I think should be telling James he has to waive that trade kicker.

Otherwise if he sulks here he could be a huge Moochie like albatross.

Now if he waives the trade kicker then do it, however not for Alston or Howard.

Make it for Sura and if we have to take Griffin then make it for something we don't need like John Lucas III thrown in there.

As for Minny did they seriously ask for Howard?

McHale was an amazing player but he's a r****d as a GM.

As strange as this might sound coming from me (a Mike James fan), I wouldn't make a trade for him unless we can clear some of the clutter we have in the backcourt; I would trade a couple of PGs on our current roster (VSpan, JLIII, Sura, may be even Novak) for Mike James, but otherwise it would be rather difficult to give everyone on the roster the minutes they're asking for: Mike James, Rafer Alston, Luther Head, Bonzi Wells, Kirk Snyder.

I just REALLY hope they don't throw away a guy like Snyder last minute to pry Mike James or Chuck Atkins away from their teams...I would be REALLY pissed if that happens.

Also, I wouldn't trade Rafer at this point, the team clearly has some chemistry with him on the court and you don't want to mess with that at this point of the season. If we do eventually want to move him, we would have to wait for the off season, not now.

Of course, I would love to get Mike James just because it gives us a damn good option when either/both Luther Head/Rafer Alston start screwing up on the court; he would be somewhat of a safety net for this team at the point.

I think the main thing to keep in mind here for the Rockets' brass and the fans is that whatever we do, we're trading from a position of strength; we don't HAVE to do anything drastic because we're already a top-notch team that's playing great basketball and 'clicking' with the players we have now. Any other team we trade with would have to understand that fact, especially when you're talking about the likes of Minny and Memphis.

I just hope CD/Morey don't panic and do something stupid, they shouldn't allow other teams to push us to do something we aren't comfortable with...there is no need for us to be in that position.
