just from reading the quote from SI, and I am basing a lot on just that, but having mike james back would have really disrupted the chemistry? he played with rox before, so they know mike, not such a ringing endorsement of james...

i dunno, but vg feels confident enough in the chemistry to get it done, but it isn't as if the rox are the only team who have great chemistry this year. we'll see, as someone said, the margin of error will be considerably less, and I hope it doesn't choke the life out of the likes of rafer and head.

i think it's more of a case of jvg seeing jho as the only dependable 4 on the roster at the moment.

"Also Thursday, Houston had been expected to acquire Mike James (and potentially Eddie Griffin) in a multiplayer deal that would have sent Juwan Howard to Minnesota. But the Rockets pulled back when coach Jeff Van Gundy pointed out that his team has benefited from excellent chemistry, and did Houston want to risk upsetting the balance? There's no arguing with that claim: GM Carroll Dawson has said this is the best locker room he has seen in 28 years."
The Rockets were also looking at a complementary deal to send one of their point guards (possibly John Lucas) for a power forward (potentially Denver's Linas Kleiza), but that fell through when they decided to stick with Howard.

I would think they would have traded jho first and replaced him with the guy from denver. Interesting. you're right, they felt as if having a reliable 4 was more important than having a reliable PG at the expense of losing jho. so, this has confirmed more or less what the rox philosophy, that the 4 is more vital piece on this team. I have to agree, despite the plethora of complaints about pg, although it is a weakness, just not as much so as 4. I can't remember how long rox fans always complaining about needing a tough 4 to protect yao, and not saying jho is the best at that, but looking at what the rox would have gotten from denver, that would have severely weakened the 4. whew, thak you CD, thank goodnes you do not read these boards or believe them

they also wanted a 1st rounder and eddie griffin packaged in the trade. another deal involving EG where rocks give up a 1st round pick. i don't think they could live that down.

Wow, never thought of it that way, hilarious...

3 1sts for 1 guy, couldn't the guy at least have been a..., let's say, "Stromile Swift" type? :D

Would love to have MJ back we came close to getting him this summer. MJ needs to be in a system where two people like Yao and Tmac draw doubles and leaves him open for the jumper. This is pretty crazy, but I was a huge Eddie Griffin backer when traded for him, he obviously flopped, he left college to early and lacked maturity for the NBA lifestyle. However, his weakside shotblocking ability and rebounding would actually help us if he can stay focus and off of drugs. Wouldn't mind hiring him a personal escort and mentor to help him get his stuff togetheir just for the playoff run.

I was all for adding James without breaking into the most regular 7-8 guys of this years rotation. At the cost of Howard, no I wouldn't the James deal to go down yesterday. For any combination of VS, JL3, Novak & Sura + 1st pick I would have done it, for Bonzi or Snyder plus filler plus a #1 I would have thought hard about it, but not Howard.

I would have taken the gamble to chemistry to add Mike James and keep the major players. But losing Howard the way he is playing with the team would have just created another roster weakness and disrupted chemistry.

Where is the link stating that Minny wanted a first on top of Juwan and Sura's contract?

Howard is playing well, but I think many are forgetting that his game does not complement Yao's.

Howard is a seasoned vet and former all-star calibre player so is able to turn it on in spurts, but he is not the future.
