T-Mac might think he can play but he should take a break for awhile and try to get fully healed up. Things might be rough for the Rox for the next month or so but I would rather have things rough now than in April.

This coming schedule is pretty weak I think we can keep wining with him for a while.

T-Mac always get hurt but lay on the playoff.

This team can give him chance to recover, he don't need to rush back Houston will keep winning, they got enough players and hopefully Shane can get back.

Here's a serious, hypothetical question (not meant to be hateful):

If the Rockets management was willing to pay McGrady every penny remaining in his contract and said "it's up to you whether you want to play", what do you think McGrady would do and why?

In other words, do you think he would just take the money and run? If he chose to stay, do you think he would be doing it for himself or just to avoid disappointing teammates and fans? I have no doubt that most players in the league (pick one in your head), would still want to play because they love playing NBA basketball.

I honestly think McGrady has lost his passion for the game. I wouldn't be surprised if internally he has thoughts like "I'm just gonna play out my contract and do my best to pretend I care." I think you can see it increasingly in his demeanor, the way he plays and the things he says - and not just this season.

I think he's worn down physically and mentally. He clearly used to have that fire early in his career but I think it's long gone. His body, the media, not winning anything, etc... have gotten the best of him. You need that will to play and that will to win in order to have any chance at being a champion, especially when you are a key player on a team. Talent, alone, isn't enough. Injured or not, I think it would take a borderline miracle to make Tracy love the game again.

I think he still has the fire, but it's deep down in his psyche and really only awakens during the playoffs. But with each season of disappointment, it gets harder and harder for him to light that fire in the regular season, when the ultimate goal (winning in the playoffs) is still months away no matter how well he plays.

sit him out and have him actually work and rehab as long as he needs till he is ready to come back even if it means until the all star break... agree?

i think this is best for both parties. t-mac gets to rest his knee and the rockets will use a SG who can move without the ball (Barry, Wafer, even Head).

So, you're basically agreeing that his passion is much lesser than that of most other players. Take any other key player in the league (Kobe, Pierce, Garnett, Paul, James, etc...) and tell me how they approach regular season games. You basically restated exactly what I was getting at. The fire needs to be in full force all the time, and it is for most of the elite players (and most every other player too), especially those on contending teams.

^ Well it is kind of hard to love the game when it seems like you are injured constantly. I think in your scenario McGrady would still play. True he might not have the fire as he had early in his career but I believe him when he says he loves his teammates and enjoys the camraderie.

If McGrady really has come to hate the game he's earned more than enough now to live well the rest of his life and could retire anytime he wants. I don't get the feeling that McGrady is all the money and believe he still wants to play. I also suspect that as a still relatively young man he probably hasn't thought much about what he will do when he's not playing. Basketball isn't just a hobby to him, its a career and like a lot of people his career is probably very important to his own sense of identity.

    Is that enough?

You need to love winning and competing, too. I don't think he has the kind of fire he needs in that regard any more and I have strong doubts that he ever will again.

I often wonder if he's just dragging through his last contract. I am not as confident as you that he cares that much any more. Not because he is a bad person but just because that is where he is at physically and mentally.

since everyone seems to be giving their opinion about t-mac, i'll share mine. we all know t-mac isn't the most passionate player out there. i think baseball is his preferred sport, and basketball is just a sport he was naturally good at. you know the kid who's good at football but doesn't really like playing football? t-mac's kind of like that kid. but not saying he totally has no passion for bball. he's got to have some passion to make a career out of it, but it's just his favorite sport.

I agree, seems like he's just going through the motions, I mean everday it's something new, just the other day he was fine the doctors hooked him up and he went out and hit 27,Seems to me he's cool if he's got it going and the ball is going to him everyplay and he's hot but when the game is different and he isn't the focal point he winds up limping or getting hurt.

Then he has a over pessimistic gloom doubt outlook about everything it almost feels like he hopes that the MRI comes out bad for some reason. In my opinion if he doesn't feel like he can be dominant as one man then he doesn't want to play.

Yao is a tough warrior. He'll play through injuries and not complain about it. But TMac is like, I don't know, a woman? He fake injuries sometimes. Even when he's really okay, he'll make it a big deal.

I think this is a lesson for all the negative Rockets fans in here that's ungrateful. We have a great team with a great franchise player in Yao. Why the fans here bash our great player, who knows. Maybe this is karma. It's a warning from god to stop bashing our best player and be grateful. otherwise, he'll send injuries to our team.

So let's all stop the bashing and start cheering and supporting our team! GO ROCKETS!

I do feel that he really is motivated more by the playoffs. His physical and mental health isn't that good. I don't think he has ever faked an injury, but his threshold for withstanding pain is probably less than someone like Yao.
I do wonder if McGrady is somewhat depressed as well, because physical pain gets worse along with this condition.

I swear this board is pure comedy

1st you had someone make a thread saying Westbrook dominated Aaron Brooks, well that didn't go to well once Brooksball brought in the facts.

Then in this thread you got someone saying don't bash our players support the team yet he/she bashed T-mac in that same post.

Then to top it off with the quote from Mr. Pink.

These type of post are the reason people can't tell sarcasm on this board. :D
