haha juxtaposed to realjd's post, what does it mean when a guy making $20m/yr marries a longtime gf with whom he has been having longtime problems. Trying hard to do the right thing--I guess. Doesn't want to look like the bad guy who quits on the girl. Can't you just set her up for life and move on? I mean, Cuttino never got married to the gf he knocked up, did he?
not when you're a public figure. it's not the way how it works in america. i guess we don't know the truth for sure, yet. maybe there's something else to it besides his knee, maybe not. i could be wrong, but my gut feeling has been yes for the last 10 days or so; and that started before i read anything posted by goat. we shall see. truth cannot be hidden forever.
THis was an underrated post. Good analysis. This was a closed door meeting which probably revealed a LOT and I suspect concluded with the admission that injuries are evident but are not the main factor to his lackluster play. If they can motivate him and get down to the bottom fot his in secret, we could see a strong TMac coming back.
maybe morey has a different approach than cd's or jvg's; maybe he knows the old ways didn't quite work in the past?
B.T.W. his back is definitely O.K. because I caught some video of T-Mac in a hack-squat max-rep battle. And dancing.
I am pretty sure it was a conversation asking Tmac what he wanted to do. He is an adult, paid $21M a year, I am sure this was not a kids-in-the-pricipal office conversation, but rather an open discussion on where Tmac is, what he wants to do, and that management loves him and will be supportive of whatever Tmac decides, blah, blah... Tmac then felt bad, esp. after seeing Artest tearing up the Jazz on one ankle, apologized for letting the team down, and promised to play with intensity next time. What do you all think?
LOL wow that clears things up. and here i thought t-mac was a bad actor. how did he lose the role in He Got Game to Ray Allen!
i'm a little confused. are we saying his back injury (in the wizards game) and the waco doctor's story and stuff were all made up?
The way I read that is that he did have a back injury (He fell hard) and did see the Waco doctor which helped him. But, he also took extra time off feigning a back problem to deal with his illegitimate child in Orlando. DD
The meeting happened before the Jazz game, right? They probably didn't even know that Artest would play at that point. I agree. I don't think there were any huge revelations or anythings. T-Mac said he couldn't go, but he was apologetic about it and tried to quell the disappointment by reassuring coach and the GM that he'd play really hard next game. It's just empty words, empty promises. We've heard it time and again from T-Mac in the past. It doesn't mean much, unfortunately.
Unfortunately Durvasa, I think your right. I see this as an up and down situation for the rest of the season. I don't see him changing overnight, it looks as if he suffering from depression big time.
We all want him to use basketball as a way to cope with his stress; but I suspect that his Darfur film project may have been the outlet he chose.
the situation right now is extremely frustrating. hopefully he'll get his issues resolved and come back ready to play. this season is unlike any other season b/c he knows he has the talent on his team to compete. there's no reason we can't solidfy the #2 seed and he has to know that.
i'm a tmac fan, but it's obvious mentally, he's very fragile, esp. when it comes to his health (or other issues OFF THE COURT). he's an extremely pessimistic individual. and he is the key. we had yao and artest playing well and we barely beat a utah team who missed its best 3 big men. and he's the key ONLY if he's playing up to the level we're accustomed to him playing (or even 20, 5, 5 level which he can easily do if he puts his mind to it). we'll see how he plays the rest of teh season. i'm not gonna be overly excited if he has one great game v. the wiz tonight. i still haven't given up on the guy b/c i know he cares and i know he wants to win. he just needs a little push. and maybe that talk with adelman and morey was it.
Any performance related position, the key is always consistency. His energy might be there for the lowly Wizards (tonight) but is not there when the Rox play the Hornets. Management must make him accountable for EVERY GAME and not the "convenient" games on the schedule.
T-mac needs to look at the Standings and know he doesn't have time to b/s around. He is acting like we are locked into the playoffs.
T1, I think Adelman and Morey know there is a problem beyond the injuries, I feel confident they will get him the right help. There is to much riding on this season for them not to and Morey knows they will not even come close to getting equal value for McGrady in any trade this season. There best course of action is to help T-Mac deal with what he's currently going through in the best way possible and T-Macs going to have to accept the help. His sometimes sulking a bit on the court may be a way of asking for help. Who knows.
