I have reservations. He's not a starter, the knee and I think Dorsey can do anything Landry can do and maybe better. Dorsey and Hayes can certainly do anything Landry can do.The Rockets seem overloaded with undersized hustle guys. But you never know how a player will take to the NBA and Landry has done it and Dorsey hasn't, so, I'd probably do the deal though as long as I had a plan to get under the cap before the deadline. If we don't match I'll be pretty excited to see Dorsey.
Wow you too sure about that? The reason he doesn't drive in is because he fears injuries. Often times when he goes 30+ he drives against any team. So lets use our terms correctly.
I think it's funny that TMac seems to like every player the Rockets pick up every year. What you wrote though, is silly.
I think you match. Now that it turns out everything is okay with Rafer, and we won't need to be shopping for a new starting pg, I think Landry is a good pickup for the money. It's fun when you have a deep bench and can have several guys fill in a similar position that all have different strengths.
So, we offered him $5.4 M over 3 years. Bobcats basically doubled that. is that the way it is. Do owners under the cap wait until the end of the FA market to extend offers that force other teams to match and pay luxury taxes as a way to get more money for themselves from the tax revenue sharing pool?
You have to match this offer, in my opinion. My reasoning is... - If he keeps up his production from last season (pre-injury) then he's worth $3 million. If he continues to get better each year, he'll be worth much MORE over the next 3 years than the $9 million we pay him. - If he can't get playing time, we trade him to a team that's willing to take a chance (we know Charlotte is for sure). At his age, it's a small enough contract that even with a creaky knee he's worth a shot to a lot of teams. - The 3rd year is not guaranteed. That means that no matter what, we'll have the option to let him come off the cap for the big 2010 off season. - Signing him will put us over the luxury tax threshold, but we have until mid to late February to move some pieces around. You have to believe that Morey could get it done. - He's a 2nd round pick that, as a rookie, stepped in and sealed a playoff win for us in Salt Lake City. That can't be overlooked, in my opinion.
what Landry was doing last season is rare, unique, and exciting in NBA or anywhere. Landry is not a hustle guy. His game is vertical. He is an offensive talent which is the opposite to Hayes and Dorsey. No way Dorsey can be Landry, or even half of Landry.
Getting under the cap, we could easily shed Francis and Luther. I don't see them getting a ton of minutes or adding value. Especially if AB has improved his calvin murphy mid range game.
