Looks like a little revisionist history to me. First, Rice was making $9m not $11m. Secondly, part of the reason for moving Rice was that we were near the Luxury Tax threshhold of $55m. Subtract Rice's $9m and you are still well above the cap. So that you understand...clearing Rice would not have made us players in the FA market. And whatever we got out of Spoon last year was way more than we'd have gotten out of Rice who was waived by Utah and then again by the Clipps. And that #21 pick you desperately want back from Utah? They sent it to DAL who then drafted Pavel Podkolzin. Podkolzine has yet to play a minute of NBA ball. IMO, no one at 21 or above was a can't miss prospect. Don't let your frustration cloud your logic.
Watching the Sonics/Laker game and I am really impressed with Danny Fortson. He seems to be at least one of the reasons the Sonics are tearing up the league this year. He seems to have the mobility to play PF as well as center. How come we didn't pick this guy up for our backup center. Its hindsight is 20/20 but damn CD.
Some of ya'all don't miss a chance to whine..... We didn't "pick him up" to play C because Fortson is an undersized PF who has basically stunk for both GS & DAL for the past 2 seasons. And because Cuban and the Nelsons wanted Calvin Booth back more than they wanted any Rocket(s) making $5.8m. BTW, what was so impressive about 7 points and 5 boards in 23 minutes? http://www.nba.com/playerfile/danny_fortson/game_by_game_stats.html
Gater - Thanks, didn't know they traded Fortson, I thought they got him through FA. He looked good on TV and the announcers were saying nice things about him. Looked real athletic and is an 85% FT shooter, boy I thought he had more than 7 points and 5 rbs.
McDyess's contract is very reasonable, definitely would have been worth the risk. Did he actually consider Houston? I'm not sure he'd want to knock heads with the PFs of the west everynight. Jones was the one that got away. A little too much pride on CD's part to bring back a former player perhaps? The guy isn't very creative with the ball, but he can sure drop 3s. Ward is done. How can we count on outside shooting from a guy hitting 31% of his shots? Laughable. Small quibble with Justice's article -- Marquis Daniels was a FA signee, not even drafted, not a 2nd round pick. A little homework please!
