Its pretty BLEAK when people think that Eddie House coming here (or not) is something that might impact the team
There are better role players than House in the league but at least he is young enough, athletic and can shoot despite being undersized and erratic. He could bring some energy off the bench like Barrett if nothing else.
Um, bingo. House can't really bring anything to the table that Barrett doesn't. He's a really undersized 2 guard, so you can't even play him in the same lineup.
I was thinking about bringing House off the bench as a reserve 2 and pairing him with Sura while giving some minutes at the 3 to T-Mac in addition to his starting role at the 2.
As much as I like Dre's speed and hustle, I'm not sold on his shooting. In fact, when he shoots, I'm surprised when the shots go in. I don't know, it could be his form or something, it just doesn't look good. I also wish Dre is really 5'10" and not 5'6 1/2.
How soon we forget that Boki is a career brick-layer. Anyway I hope he comes back and show what he can again.
I really think this could be true. Some different offensive sets including some repositioning might help. Some players could start hitting their shots; that could happen. But a tough, enforcer-like PF could really imrove the team, but they are not easy to come by, and what do we have to offer. I am starting to get that lottery feeling, imagine how the marginally dedicated are feeling. It was sooooo important for the team to keep the "Spurs Miracle" momentum going, but they proved it was a miracle. It is going to take a "minor" miracle for this team to make the playoffs. Somebody, give me hope!
If Charlie Ward is the solution to our shooting problems, then the doo-doo the Rockets find themselves in is WAY deeper than I first believed...
The Rockets really missed out on McDyess and Damon Jones. McDyess was a gamble, so I understand. But letting Damon Jones go to the Heat was a HUGE mistake. He really wanted to come to Houston, and he just ended signing a 1 year deal with Miami. What really pisses me off is how JVG passed him up to sign Ward to a 3-year deal!!!! I thought we had bad contracts when we had Rice/MoT/Mooch, but Spoon/MoT/Howard/Ward takes the cake.
Another thing that CD made a HUGE mistake on. We traded Rice/1st Round pick for Amechi, if I remember correctly, Rice had an expiring contract. So basically we traded Rice/1st round pick/Mooch for Spoon, who we will be paying for 3 years. Things would have been so much better if we just let Rice's contract expire, it would have left us with 11M off the books and our 1st round pick.
good post, and i see your points, but we don't need to play a "wide-open" offense to score. we just need a motion offense. we can get better shots with the personell we have if we utilized it better. i hate to sound like a broken record, but put yao on the high post and run the offense through him. easier entry pass, more/better lanes for the cutters, and yao will find them, or end up w/ a decent shot himself. note to JVG: high-post does not mean having yao set a pick out on the three point line, then roll to the basket in slo-mo. there's too much court to cover- the defense has too much time to rotate, so when a pass is thrown, there will always be someone waiting for yao down low.
I see your point. In essence, utilize Yao in much the same way that Sac used Vlade Divac. That strategy actually is probably a better fit for Yao's passing & shooting talents than trying to turn him into a Ewing clone but it wouldn't work here because: Ward/Lue/Gaines are not Bibby; Sura is not Bobby Jones; TMac is Peja and then some but there's no Chris Webber on this team - a PF with excellent passing skills and Mutumbo is not Brad Miller. That's what's so limiting about this team: it's composed of a bunch of guys with basically the same skill set and it's an average to below average skill set at that.
No, let's keep running the "best" players out there. They must be better shooters than Boki the career brick-layer, right?
Like Hillboy said, this will not work for us. We are getting good shot opportunities right now. I am sure you see it. The problem is we either brick the open shot or pass it up in fear of bricking. The shots we get are better than Sac's(I know because Sac is my second favorite team). If Bibbly and Peja gets the shots our perimeter get, lol, they would be competing with each other for the MVP. These guys work so hard just to get a little separation from the defenders. While our guys are standing there, alone, waving their arms, getting a perfact pass, and bricking. It's not like we are shooting with defender's hand in our faces. We are just missing. It's funny but not funny at the same time. The other teams don't even guard our perimeter. They are either doubling, or playing what JVG calls "1 and half" on Yao and Tmac. They are closer to Tmac and Yao than to their own men. When the ball comes out to the perimeter, defender is recovering full speed from 15 feet away. FULL SPEED . . . We still have enough time to put up a very good shot or take 1 dribble and pull up. However the thought of our guys doing the 1 dribble pull up makes me cringe. I could make a living in the NBA if all my defenders run at me from 15 feet. You can double me with Artest and KG, as long as they are running full speed at me from 15 feet, I'll do no worse than our perimeter. Ok that's a little exageration, maybe...not by much.
