Yep, and that's what I'm really worried about. My theory is that all the funding that was used for Morey's Machinations (tm) were diverted from the medical training staff, which at this point apparently composed by the very influential Keith Jones and assorted extras from the televesion series "scrubs".

My hope is that the swelling is only due to some muscles getting banged up...he did say he got hit in the same spot several times. If Yao Ming ends up out for a month or more then Championship aspirations are probably done the drain this season. It'll take Yao Ming another few months to get back into shape after recovering from that setback, and by then it'll probably be too late for our season.

I think it's time Yao starts wearing pads like D-wade or at least like Patrick Ewing used to wear. Can't hurt.

We'll just have to see how this all plays out because saying his right knee is D size doesn't paint a really good picture of Yao's knee at this point. We barely had any information last year and the announcement that Yao is out for the season caught everyone by surprise.

Hope this is just a knee bump and nothing serious.

    We need you big man!

It sounds like bone bruises alone can cause a lot of swelling but despite the term "bruise", those can often take 2 months or so to heal.

If the Chron report is true that there was a lot of swelling in the knee that quickly, I just can't see how this will end up being good news. A minor bone bruise sounds like the best case scenario. Torn ligaments or a torn meniscus are probably the bigger concern and the x-ray didn't rule those out. We'll know more after the MRI. I have a bad feeling about this.

    1. Tmac knew he'd need knee surgery after the season, that wasn't a surprise.

    2. He DID say he's been hit/bumped in the same knee several time lately. therefore:

    A bump = A little swollen
SEVERAL bumps in same area = a lot of swelling

Doesn't necessarily mean there's more to the injury, if a boxer gets smacked over and over in the same area, it's gonna be pretty swollen later that night.

best case - yao takes a day rest and doesn't miss a beat.

worst case - out until after the asg.

in between - missing a game or 2.

no they didn't even get any tests done b/c they thought it was just swelling.

but yao needs to take as much time to reduce that swelling as possible. take no chance for a knee bruise that tracy/landry got last yr that required more time off.

we need our stars healthy. with tracy and ron back, yao can afford some rest.

From reports Luther Head is a pretty quiet dude so I'd doubt he'd be saying stuff like that, and also Head has his game and his next contract to worry about so I doubt he has time to think of adoloscent jokes like this. Deke probably won't be making jokes like that because he's already pretty old, and the other rockets wouldn't have laughed because they don't understand what he's saying most of the time anyway.

My guess is its either Rafer Alston or Brent Barry. Since it kinda' has "smartass" written all over it, its probably Barry :D

It's a bone bruise. Bone bruises don't show up on X-rays. It could also be a very minor knee sprain, in which case he'd need 5-10 days off.

I doubt Yao, of all people, would be laughing if it were anything else.

Maybe we should actually trade for another superstar in case to have at least two guys on the court on the same time because you know somebody will get injured.
