I'm not crazy about the hyperbole, 'You can't stop him, you can only hope to contain him.' But guys like Lebron, Wade, Kobe, Arenas, will have some nights like that. That said, Battier is as good as any guy in playing D on stars like them. On top of that we've got one of the top overall team defenses in the league. You guys are giving Kobe too much credit. He's one of the top 3 in the league, but just because there isn't another superstar guarding him doesn't mean the Lakers get an automatic win.

I don't know how you can give too much credit to a player that has the same skill repertoire as Jordan or the guy that scored 81 points last season. He's the best and most explosive scorer in the game

He's overrated when people compare him to Jordan (or say he's better) because of a meaningless 81 point game and without looking at the stats (since Jordan has a career scoring average of over 30 points a game and Kobe would need 9 seasons of 36 points a game to match it). However, he is still probably the most amazingly player in the game right now.

I have no doubts Melo could score a bunch of points against a team who isn't playing any defense against him if he took over 40 shots as well.

it's looking very grim for the rockets right now. our guards are very undersized and odom will punish hayes/juwon all night. i see the lakers running a lot of fast breaks and our offensive points will be tough to get. kobe will probably drop 40.

I wouldn't argue w/ him being the best player, that's a reasonable opinion. My point w/ that statement was some people think just because Kobe is on the opposing team it's an automatic loss. Battier on Kobe!?!? OMGit'soverwelose!

I will say it's possible to give anyone too much credit though.
