I'm tired of the antics, the weird leaked stories, the drama. The injuries, the tossing teammates under the bus, the inadequate leadership, let that be another team's problem. With that said, as far as regular season goes (we all are aware of McGrady's postseason woes), even the horrible '06 season, even the '05 team that started with Charlie Ward at PG before Sura/Barry/Wesley/Mike James came in, even the drama filled '09 season soap opera, in the actual games McGrady's played he's managed a WINNING record every season in Houston. Yes McGrady might slow down player development. But all this talk that his mere presence alone with turn them into a stinkhole of team doesnt hold up much considering his Rockets history. Every year's been some kinda of drama ride with T Queen. But every year its the same consistent decent record with him in (non-advancement in postseason). Everyone says lets forgot that old Orlando T-Mac we're in the current day, but then are trying hard to turn him into the worst case Orlando T-Mac that quit. If we're to forget the old Orlando T-Mac and just look at Houston McGrady as we've been instructed, I'm trying really hard to see why I should show up with a pitchfork but I dont see what all is to be concerned about really.
People bring up McGrady's quitting in Orlando b/c it's an indication of his mentality which is relevant to the current situation. People say to forget McGrady's on court performance in Orlando b/c its irrelevant to the player he is today.
It's ok if the Rox end up a 300 team this year. If they play hard, hustle, and give it all they've got night in and night out, I will bleed Rockets red. Effort and direction are far more important than winning.
It won't stop him or his people going to the media as they have done recently. The recent leaks hurt the Rockets more than McGrady. If they're forced to move him it'll be another Pippen scenario, eg Knicks and Eddy Curry.
The question is. Do the Rockets really care about that practice? He may even do better than great, but if they don't want to use him, they will say he sucked.
and this point i'll take chandler bing plus 2 expiring eardrums from janice....anything to get T-douche away from the rockets
i hope you're being sarcastic, it's probably better to let it expire and try to lure some new young players in the next year or two.
(Didnt think my post would be so lengthy... ) I can agree on that, generally someone's personality is more a constant fixture and can carry over into other situations. Though it can still look like cherry picking. Is anyone still referring to Aaron Brooks' suspension in college for fighting? I'm doing what I'm told, forgetting Orlando T-Mac focusing on Rockets McGrady. But still keeping his character flaws in perspective. McGrady kicking a ball into the stands, trying to get his coach fired, quitting so bad he limits the team to 17 wins. Thats the worst case outcome based on what McGrady has shown in the past. Is that what is going to happen in this situation? Is McGrady going to be that much a pain in the ass, rubbing off losing culture on the team? Is McGrady going to be that disruptive? The Rockets organization has the leverage this time, so maybe thats why I'm marginalizing McGrady's effect. Its get the team prepared, if McGrady doesnt comply sit him or ship him off to Siberia.
I think before that happens the Rockets will Marbury him.....if he keeps playing the petulant child, and the Rockets think he is not healthy enough to play......I think it will get ugly, and the Rockets will tell him to go home. DD
How is McGrady acting like a petulant child? Nothing he has done so far this season is petulant at all.
Slamming the door in a meeting with Morey, getting into it with his coach, putting on his jersey as an act of defiance. Yeah, he is being the consumate team player. DD
Except that McGrady expires this year. If he forces us to do anything, it will be to sit him and let his contract expire.
Basketball is an afterthought for Richard Justice behind his beloved baseball (and Astros). I take his 'tabloid' article with a grain of salt. Unlike many people on the board and in the media, I hope T-Mac (who was an all-star for many years in this league and on this team) comes back sucessfully and plays well for this team.
I guess you missed politics class, because the media never shoots it straight with you. They bend reality so that they can gain an audience. If McGrady slammed the door and argued with Adelman, don't you think he would have been disciplined?
Bottom line here imo, is that when the Rockets were going to trade Tracy last year, McGrady opted for surgery, a decision that was clearly a big FU to the team. This year it's the Rockets turn to say FU back. You see, Tracey needs to play to showcase himself for the next contract, I would not be surprised to se if Morey doesn't find a trade he likes that they sit McGrady all year long and thereby cost him millions of dollars next year in free agency. All of this is assuming Tracey can still play anymore.
You are probably right, but I think it would be counterproductive to be petty just for its own sake. I really do believe the Rockets are just doing their due diligence with a player coming back from microfracture surgery.
