I can't believe some of you people just accept everything that GM says publicly.

The role of a GM is to improve his team, not to be honest to the public.

If GM Morey says he did not contact the Lakers, that may or may NOT be true. But just because he denied making contact, that in itself is no evidence.

If GM did not deny that he was contacting the Lakers, how do you think T-Mac would feel? Obviously, he is reassuring T-Mac emotionally. But that doesn't mean the Rockets did not contact the Lakers.

Several sources have stated that the ROckets DID seek out Lakers. And I believe that too. When the Owner of the Lakers says, I'm willing to trade Kobe, all of the NBA teams should contact the Lakers. This is Kobe Bryant, possibly the best player in the NBA.

You people are nuts if you think that GM Morey will be honest with his public statements. You people are naive to think that the Rockets would not consider trading T-Mac for Kobe.

Am I saying I want to Rockets to make this trade? Not necessarily. But when I read here how people automatically believe Morey's denials, I think you people are at least naive, and at worst, idiotic.

ok, let's not talk about morey. buss/kobe/lakers have not mentioned houston ONE SINGLE TIME ever since kobe demanded a trade.

No serious person has mentioned the Rockets as a legit destination. Richard Justice brought it up in a "this could be interesting" type of way. Completely unsubstantiated.

Steven A. Smith had "sources" which informed him that the Rockets would be interested. Wow, what a freaking revelation! That doesn't mean jack, and it certainly doesn't mean that the Rockets must have contacted the Lakers. That's just him throwing some crap on a wall and hoping it sticks. It happens far too often in sports "journalism", unfortunately.

Look, I don't know what actually happened. Maybe the Rockets did express some sort of interest to the Lakers, maybe not. It doesn't do any good to dwell on it. You never want your star player feeling like he's being shopped, so Morey did the right thing by saying it never happened.

What are these sources, besides SAS's mouth? If S. A. Smith is the words you're backing this from, ... I'll leave it at that

The obvious is this: if the Lakers got into any serious talks with the Rockets, you'd bet that Buss would be going off about it to raise trading value. The idea of Kobe with Yao and the supporting cast that the Rockets have would drive the bargaining chips up big time with ANY contenders. Phoenix/ Dallas/ etc. would be very afraid of the Rockets landing Kobe. If these talks happened in any seriousness, we'd be hearing about it left and right from the Lakers.

Bahahaha! That's the funniest thing I've seen all day.

Yao_fan, if you really think you've legitimately derived some crazy information about Morey's intentions regarding T-Mac from some opinion piece (basically) by Justice, you're more r****ded we think you are. I like how you spew some crap out and present it as fact, when we all know it's just your misguided opinion. You'd be complaining about Kobe, if he was in fact traded here, for taking shots and the media spotlight away from Yao. Piece of advice, get your head out off Yao's ass and experience the real world, buddy. You'd be greeted with a big healthy dose of clarity.

And I can't believe you just accept what a random analyst says on tv (one who has hardly EVER been right about anything). Yea, you just choose to believe who you want.

Most of us with a brain here will believe the person in charge of making trades for the Rockets rather than some r****ded ESPN analyst.

Tmac had Yao and blew (2) 2-0 leads. Send Yao to the lakers with Kobe they win the championship. Phil Jackson said they're a big man away from winning the championship.

Can all 7584453545865344879742187697080775562543(yes, I counted them all) Kobe for T-Mac threads be permanently locked, thrown away, and all posters creating such threads in the future be banned from even accessing the site.

It's amazing how after so many threads, people on this BBS continue to fall hook-line-and-sinker for yao_fan's trollbait.

Geez -- a thread about T-Mac and yao_fan_2007 is there hating on him? I'm so surprised! I totally didn't see this coming.

I'm not surprised Morey stood up for his man, he did it in a good way.

However, I wouldn't be surprised if Buss contacted Houston to try to trade kobe. If you're going to trade kobe, there are only a handful of players that are in the same echelon, that's tmac, wade, duncan, lebron. Of those four teams, I'm surprised Buss didn't contact houston first.

But its right for Morey to have shot it down the moment Buss called and pretend it never happened. It's like when a fat chick asks you to the prom, not only did you reject her, you erased it from history.

I don't know. Newspapers are generally pretty credible. I've read some amazing stories on the Onion that I've never seen anywhere else.

yao was more of good player in 04-05. he was not the star to be the 1-2 punch in 04-05. that team had tmac written all over it.

last yr was more balanced but both of our stars came back from an injury. none of them were 100% healthy or healthy or in shape as they can be. plus our depth was not good enough to compete in the west.

we will go FAR this yr. just watch. and all this tracy is a loser talk will end.

that's what phil said. phil said any team w/ just kobe on it is a championship contender when he just signed and look at their playoff results and record in the reg. season.

they're a big man away from CONTENDING for a championship like the rox are contending now.

I say if the Rockets are not good enough by the trade deadline we pull the trigger on a mcgrady for kobe trade.

Can you appreciate the irony of your statement?

The original poster is correct -- it is reasonable to question the content / intent of any press release.

Kobe is a great player...but T-Mac is a better playmaker, a cataylyst for the offense. T-Mac hasn't alienated Yao...Kobe clearly alienated Shaq with his egocentric attitude and wanting to be the best at the expense of his teammates.

And without Shaq, Kobe hasn't gotten past the first round either. This season will be a breakthrough for the Rockets...Kobe could change, but I'd much rather have T-Mac. People will say what they want...but in measuring all aspects of the game...T-Mac is much better.
