For those of you that think you are medical experts or question the severity of bone bruises or are just plain ignorant:

You can find plenty more information on the reality of bone bruises by searching the web.

I grew up in the northeast and watched more hockey than any other sport. Nobody doubts the toughness of hockey players:

You can find plenty more examples of professional athletes who miss weeks of playing time due to bone bruises by searching the web.

Wait - saying "I finally got my supporting cast" isn't throwing anyone under the bus? I'm sure there's more gems like that but I can't recall.

Knowing the exact nature and severity of an injury is always key in determining the rehab schedule -- postponing an MRI because you are scared of what the results might detail is absurd.

There is no reason in the world not to back up the initial diagnosis with an MRI.

Hmm, now I don't know anything about bone bruises, how painful they are or how long it takes to come back from one. I do know that some posters have given two examples of players with bone bruises (Drexler and Duncan), and shown that it took them a week or two to come back from it.

I don't see how someone saying "look at these guys with a similar injury and the time it took to heal" can be taken as them comparing those two players or their accomplishments....so please stop with the "are you comparing T-Mac to Duncan posts". The ony valid comparison in this situation (dealing with body parts and the injuries to them) are how long it takes to come back from said injury. So if a deep bone bruise takes 2-3 weeks to come back from in the cases that we can find then get off T-Mac's sack. Either find some some examples of dudes coming back quicker and dealing with the pain or STFU. Since others have provided examples of a bone bruise actually taking some weeks to get over I will assume that the Rocket's medical team knows what they are doing and that they wouldn't have T-Mac resting if he didn't need to be. ESPECIALLY SINCE HE TRIED TO PLAY HURT REGARDLESS.

Ten pages of posts about a guys ability to withstand an injury that has put other players out for weeks is silly......

oh really. tracy did jump right back when yao was out due to the injury in the game against clippers, even when his back was not completely healed.

besides last two games, rockets loses no matter agaisnt a good team or sucking team. and I dont believe in 30+ games without yao last season all rockets played were sucking teams.

T-Mac did say he was scared to get an MRI.

However, that is not the reason that he didn't get one.

Keith Jones was the person that determined an MRI was not necessary, initially. Jones also mentioned how McGrady always listens to him and follows his instructions.

    EXACTLY

It could be wrong diagnosis/judgement on Keith Jones' part that MRI was not needed when Tracy McGrady was initially injured, or it could be just Keith Jones trying to cover Tracy McGrady's rear.

But if Tracy McGrady had not shunned the MRI and did the MRI immediately to find out how severe the bone bruise was, and then take rest and rehab, then probably he did not need to take 1 game off, then play another easy game over the Chicago Bulls, then played another game with Detroit Pistons only to aggravate the injury after a dunk.......

These fiasco and the Christmas rest days off all added up to become 2 weeks already, and certainly he might be able to play now, instead of having to skip the games of playing against tougher and elite teams like Boston Celtics and Orlando Magic, and then return to play against some lesser opponents like New York Knicks or Minnesota Timberwolves.......

LOL! u are one big whinner and u dont understand.

What's the difference between taking a MRI early? If T-Mac take an MRI early, they would probably found out its a MINOR bone bruise (which Keith Jones would put it as day2day injury). And T-Mac would still feel good enough to play in Chicago and Detriot. Most players will try to play through a minor injury.

It's only after T-Mac dunk the ball in Detriot's game (I think the landing put more pressure on his knee and the bruise got worser) and T-Mac bumped knee again with Rasheed, then T-Mac's injury aggravated into a deep bone bruise.

An early MRI would affect the outcome only if T-Mac already had a major injury (some tears/cracks) at that time.
