I realize that we're all just speculating about potential trades. Hell, I'm as guilty as anyone. For example, I wonder about doc rocket's posts about 3 months back about the Rockets playing the Blazers twice, early in the season. And I wonder about our interest in Pops and maybe Swift, lesser versions of Carl. Makes me wonder if Carl is long for the team. The numbers need to match up in a trade. Shane makes, what? About $6.7 million? Only a few players on the TrailBlazers make the kind of money that would match up a trade for Shane. Joel Pryzbilla comes to mind, and we could certainly use him, but this would mean LaMarcus Aldridge is going to play more at center this season. Portland would have interest in Carl (solid minutes at the 4), Shane (leadership for a young team and defense), and especially Aaron (local guy). We would have interest in....well, plenty of the Blazers, but who would they give up?
landry would be much better backing up leon powe at the power forward position, than jj hickson, and that jackson guy ever would.
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=krxuc6 This trade works money wise. Basically we give portland Battier,Barry and Landry. The blazers give us Joel Pryzbilla and Martell Webster. And the beauty of this is say we figure thats to much to give up,you can just switch Hayes with Landry and the money still works. What do you guys think?
2nd string C? He would only be on the Rockets/Magic/Cavs... everywhere else he is a above average starting C...
I think Portland would love us forever if we did that trade. Martell Webster, until he proves healthy, is worthless. If you give up Landry, then you'd better ask for Fernandez at least. Although any deal for Battier would likely ship out Outlaw. Potential expiring contract and avoid duplication on Blazers' roster.
I liked mine because if we sent them Landry I was going to want a first rd pick in return. If we sent them Hayes ,or Cook instead of landry no need to ask a for a 1st.Just an idea anyhows. I just think Pryzbilla is more valuable to us than either Battier or Landry. And Webster is just a nice peice with a potentially high upside.
That probably says more of the dearth of true quality centers in today's NBA rather than Big Z's actual skills and talent. He's a slow footed clumsy big who does have a good outside range and some adequate post up moves. Big Z would have been abused in the 90's which had Hakeem, DRob, Ewing, a young Shaq, and a healthy Mourning.
As a starting C, he would be average this season. 5 year ago, it was a different story for him. San Antonio(Duncan) Minnesota(Jefferson) Jazz(Okur) Atlanta(Horford) Phoenix(Stoudemire) Golden State(Biedrins) LA Clippers(Camby/Kaman) LA Lakers(Bynum) Charlotte(Okafor) Denver(Nene)
Hey, Morey's tearing it up this offseason: All those free agents and at 12:01 he's outside Marcin Gortat's house. When that didn't work, he jumped on Trevor Ariza like he was the last dinner roll on the table. Then signed David Anderson. Now he is looking at Stromile Swift. Meanwhile... Minnesota gets Ramon Sessions. San Antonio signs Keith Bogans. Miami Re-signs Jamaal Magloire. Sessions/Bogans/Magloire or Ariza/Anderson/Swift? You be the judge...
Here are the 29 other starting small forwards in the NBA (kind of in order, but not really): Lebron Granger Durant Paul Pierce Carmelo G.Wallace C.Butler Marion Prince Ron Artest Turkoglu R.Jefferson Kirilenko Jackson TYoung Beasley Gay G.Hill Gomes MWilliams Deng W.Chandler Pietrus Batum Garcia Stojakovic Simmons Thornton Mbah a Moute At least half of these guys are better overall players than Battier.
You're saying Keith Bogans and Magloire is better than Ariza and Swift? Get out of here I'd even take a proven championship contributor like Ariza over an unknown commodity like Sessions considering they're the same age but that's debatable.
You're kidding right? I would rather have Ariza than all three of the guys you listed. Sessions has upside but if he was as good as half of this board believes, it would not have taken so long for him to be signed. We had Bogans, he plays D but we don't need him. Magloire is not what the team wants in a bigman. Andersen will probably struggle defensively but I believe he will stretch the D by shooting pretty well from the outside. Swift? Please he will not make the team
Well, I'd take Ariza over all three of those guys combined, but that's just me? And who said we're signing Swift? We're just letting the guy run around in training camp - we lose absolutely nothing by doing so.
