You are upset that San Antonio signed Bogans while Morey signed Ariza? Keith Bogans. Did you forget that the Rockets had Bogans before San Antonio? The Rockets chose not to resign him, because he wasn't that good.
Bogans is more of an Adelman player than a JVG one. He's athletic, can shoot and run the floor and is a good defensive player. And the fact is the Spurs have made better and more moves than the Rockets this season, and that's a head-scratcher since it's Houston that really needs to rebuild its roster with so much uncertainty on the horizon.
you think adding keith bogans is going to help rebuild our roster??? are you kidding me??? Dude is pushing 30. How are the spurs making better and more moves a head-scratcher??? They are going all out for a championship while we're stuck in no man's land with injuries to both tmac and yao. Times running out for both teams, difference is they have their horses for this upcoming season and we dont.
I think those two are roughly equal. Prince is the better athlete and player, but Battier brings more leadership and vet savvy. I'd still take Battier over Marion Artest Jackson Turkoglu Kirilenko plus all the scrubs on that list
As far as Sacamano's list goes, Battier's bb IQ & fundamentals are much higher with the possible exception of Grant Hill. If you want someone who knows how to get points in sight situations, then Battier fits the bill.
you would take Battier over Marion, Turkoglu. and Kirilenko !?!?!?!? there is no basis for this decision Marion and Turkoglu are better all around players and Kirilinko is a better defender
Other way around actually. He bolted for Orlando when they traded for Shane Battier. And I am not "upset" that San Antonio signed Bogans while Morey signed Ariza. The point I was trying to make was that Morey could have gotten Sessions and Bogans for the same price as Ariza. Bogans is a defensive stopper, Ariza is an athletic defender. Bogans shoots a higher percentage from 3. The irony of it all is that when Bogans landed back in Orlando in 06-07, Ariza's minutes went down and the next season he was traded. Both of them are 5 year Pro's, so I don't see where all this "upside" from Morey is coming from. With Session's, he is still so new to the league, we don't know what he is capable of. He may very well be a bust or he might be the next breakout star. Either way, I think it's crazy if anybody would take Ariza over Bogans/Sessions at the same price (Sessions signed for 4 mil, Bogans for the 1 mil minimum). With Sessions and Brooks, you could spread the floor tremendously because they are both good at getting to the rim. You could potentially play McGrady at SF and he would get tons of open looks. Scola is already getting those looks with Brooks. The Rockets would be much more difficult to defend with Sessions than with Ariza. And you still have a bench anchored by Bogans and Battier, rock solid defenders, plus you have Landry feasting on the glass when Sessions and Brooks penetrate, not to mention McGrady if he comes back healthy enough to drive. PG-Brooks/Lowry SG-Sessions/Bogans SF-McGrady/Battier PF-Scola/Landry C-Hayes/Magloire Sorry guys, but I'm taking that lineup any day over the current one. And when Yao comes back, forget about it.
Aside from the obvious things like being the better athlete and physical specimen.....In 06-07 Ariza did not have playoffs or Championship experience. He was just a young player trying to find himself and figure out a role. Also, Bogans is a 6 year pro and he's 5 years older than Ariza.... so perhaps that's where Morey is seeing the "upside". Ariza's potential is still not fully tapped as opposed to Bogans... you know what you're going to get. Nothing more nothing less. He's a solid "band-aid" type of player that will play well alongside supserstars like Parker,Duncan, Ginobili. He will fit well in SA but we have no use for him. Morey made the right choice on Ariza. You say Bogans is a defensive stopper and Ariza is an athletic defender. I think it's a bit of a stretch to say that Bogans is a "defensive stopper" but I'll play along. We already have Battier who's the premier defensive stopper at his position... Ariza will compliment Battier and the rest of the team nicely with a different approach to defense. Athletic player who can play the passing lanes, takes calculated risks and good help defender. Bogans not so much. Lastly, we are not going to start a Brooks/Sessions backcourt. Brook's is barely 5'11 and Sessions isn't anywhere close to his listed height of 6'3. Brooks and Lowry at the 1 spot should do just fine. Also Sessions probably wanted to go somewhere where he got lots of PT with an opportunity to be the man. He wouldn't have gotten that here.
The Rockets started rebuilding their roster a couple years ago. The Spurs are just doing it this summer. Tracy, Shane, and Chuck are the only Rockets who'll play this year that was on the team before Adelman took over. And Tracy is likely on his way out after this season.
Funniest thing is to compare the Rockets signings to the ones of three other teams. Why not say Ariza, Andersen and Swift (not even signed) are worse than Miller, Odom and Millsap. btw thw only player I want is Sessions and I wouldn`t take him over Ariza.
