When I'm at the game tonight, I would much rather it be 72 degrees and not windy than low 50s like the fans were going through last night. They looked miserable at 1am, especially given that we have a better option that was built specifically so fans could be comfortable.
Pgab, Teams build their new stadiums to suite their stlye of play it is a home field advantage. The Astros do the same, why should they have that taken away by MLB? Would it have made a difference last night? Can't really say, but at least their would be 40,000 less people in houston with runny noses today. DD
and a team can't make their outfield walls farther or bring them in for different games. they can't change from turf to grass. those are the things you build your team around and its permanent throughout the year.
But they can change how the grass is cut. They can also change things like the songs before the batter steps up or anything else on the jumbotron that pumps the crowd up. Oh, and for 87 games this season, we could choose whether or not to have the roof open or closed.
exactly.....if we wanted to leave the infield grass longer, we could have.... Bottom line is that the roof has ZERO effect on the game. It has ALL to do with home field advantage and fan comfort....and MLB dropped the ball big time here. They didnt bother us during the regular season, NLDS or NLCS.....its total horse****.
Teams also water down the dirt in front of home plate more or less depending on the team they are playing and/or the the pitchers in the game.
You know its funny... Selig was so adamant in keeping the roof open so as not to use the stadium as a disctinct advantage for the home team. If that's the case then Game 2 should have never been played in that cold and rainy weather. That clearly played to the Sox advantage because they are used to changing weather conditions since it is an open stadium. But they played, and just look at the lack of control our bullpen guys showed (and Biggio's dropped fly ball). The only damn pitcher that was decent was Pettite, but he played all those seasons in NY. If you're gonna make a decision, be consistent w/ it, otherwise you look like an ass. Too late for that though. Thanks for takin away our home field advantage Selig. And btw, it doesn't make much sense when you follow the guidelines we use during the regular season for opening the roof, because there are NO guidelines for how cold it gets, because, the only times it would get cold during the season is RIGHT NOW. And 50 degrees is uncormfortable for people who just went through a record-breaking heatwave of a summer that ended only a few weeks ago!
