I just heard Richard Justice say on 610 that MLB listened to the Cardinals saying the roof being closed was a competitive advantage for the Astros that should be eliminated. If that's true...wow. Just wow. If MLB heard that and sought to get rid of an advantage of a home team...particularly when that advantage was merely crowd noise...then that's piss-poor.
Inexcusable. Reprehensible. The Astros should consider some sort of action. And, Bud Selig is an ass.
As someone who has been to approx 50 games this season at MMP, including every big game down the stretch and every playoff game...that closed roof is a HUGE advantage for us. Last night, although people were cheering, it sounded as if we had 15,000 people in attendance. MLB and Bud Selig can kiss my ass. If the Astros have any balls, they will close the roof and say "Fine me. You want it in cash? See me after the game." I'm not saying we lost becuase of this...but i can honestly tell you that it made a HUGE difference...and I guarantee the players would agree. In addition, my kid was freezing...as were many people around me. It was 55. There is no reason on the face of this earth why that roof had to be open. MLB owes the city of Houston and its players a major apology.
by the 6th or 7th inning, it was cold enough that most people around me were not happy with the roof being open
The b****ing is because its a much clearer home field advantage when its closed....if they had the AC blasting and kept it 55 degrees with the roof closed, I would have no issue.
That and they played with the roof closed nearly all ****ing year. I hope Bud Selig got bit by a mosquito and contracted the West Nile Virus.
The Astros scored five runs. Roy had one bad inning. What would have happened differently if the roof was closed? That's par for what they have done all playoffs except one bad inning from Roy.
It's the principle of the thing. Are you being serious? It's taxation without representation dude, it's a central agency suddenly with no good reason taking autonomy away from its members which it had previously allowed--all season and all postseason long. It's disingenuous and wrong.
I am not blaming the loss on the roof. I am blaming Selig for taking away our home field advantage. If you think that having the roof closed didn't make a difference, you probably have never been to a game at MMP in the last 60-90 days.
i'm not saying the outcome would have been different. i'm just not keen with MLB or any league seeking to neutralize a home field advantage...specifically when that home field advantage is crowd noise. that's the sort of thing they should be encouraging.
Well this is the way I feel about retractable in general. They shouldn't be used for advantages. In the NFL you have to make your decision and stick with the whole game. Now maybe MLB shouldn't have come in and taken over a decision that is generally made by the Astros, I can't argue with that. But I don't think your roof decision should be based on how it gives you an advantage. I know it is, but I just think it should be based on the comfort level of the fans.
