The "weather" is not why the Astros are complaining... they're just more comfortable in their own surroundings when its closed.

Also, who cares about what's being said here... I'm hearing it every 4 seconds from every single major news station in the country on tv right now... its obviously not a small whiny issue amongst our bbs members.

So, to carry that out to its logical end, they didn't do 2.) because they had already pre-determined to be control freaks about the issue with no regard to the franchise's autonomy.

    Precisely.

This just in: it is so not about the weather.

Point is it's our park we should be able to do whatever the hell we want.

When we go to game 5 and Clemens is out on the mound in 50 degree weather, I wonder if his leg might start tightening up a little faster on him? I don't care so much about the roof in the first two home games, but Drayton should give Selig the finger and close the roof to help out Roger's hammy when he pitches.

Drayton better get some balls and just tell the MLB to shove it. I can bet steinbrenner would do the same if he had the choice.

Drayton ought to come out before the first pitch and tell the crowd "Hell no" and crank the roof back.

Just out of curiosity, what happens if we refuse to comply with baaseball on this one?

On what basis? I really don't understand what gives them the right to decide this. It truly doesn't make any sense. Where does it state in the rules that they can control whether or not we have the roof open?

Apparently it states that MLB has total control over all ballpark operations in the World Series... and that includes the operating of the roof.

They ordered it shut for all games in 92 and 93 for the Blue Jays, and they ordered it open for all 2001 games in Arizona. Its obviously nice in Arizona at night time, and cold in Toronto at night time... so they were strictly going by weather.

MLB is basically saying that a retractable roof should only be used for weather purposes... not for a competitive advantage. That's their final stand.

You know I don't remember Selig ponying up the cash for the park. It's OUR park not MLB's. WE do what WE want. Period.

Gotta love this headline from the Montana Billings Gazette:

Baseball orders Astrodome roof open for Game 3

Bud says they don't get days like this in Milwaukee until July. Glad they're keeping it open so he can enjoy the weather. Its obvious the noise is an advantage for the Astros. But the performance of the ball, the acoustics, the perception of a ball in flight all are things the 'Stros are used to with the roof CLOSED. Keeping it open for the blimp is inexcusable IMO. They are actually putting the 'Stros at a DISADVANTAGE with this decision and that just stinks.

If its colder in Houston for Game 5 the Astros better be able to close the roof for Clemens.

yeah it's ridiculous, the players having to wear long sleeves under their uniforms should be reason enough to close the roof.

so far it's dead in there compared to when the roof is closed, the energy and noise in there right now is no where near the level it would be if the roof is closed

how could bud selig manage to mess this up...

He won't do anything about umpires who refuse to ask for help when making a call (i.e. Dye's foul ball) but he'll sure as hell make sure the blimp can see all those beautiful fans. Plus this isn't even controversial. People unanimously oppose Selig but hey I guess that's irrelevant when it comes to Selig.

I've seen people in the stands wearing shorts. McGrady is wearing a t-shirt behind home plate. It can't be all that bad.

If the Astros lose, that's all that matters... its enough to be semi-upset about this.
