Theo Epstein help the Redsox get one.. and he's supposely a Billy Beane protege.

If you are going to blame the A's not winning titles on "moneyball", the blame is misplaced. The problem with them is that they don't have any money to spend, so even when they are efficient with the money, they don't get enough talent to beat the Yankees of the world.

Spending money efficiently with statistical methods isn't the problem for them... actually having money to spend is.

When it comes to the Rockets... Morey, I suspect, won't be a problem for them. The barrier seems to be Les' willingness to open the picketbook and maybe pay the lux tax if the right deal comes along.

You're going to have to be more specific. Why does having players with a high efficiency/salary ratio help you win in the regular season and goes south in the playoffs?

I couldn't disagree with you more and I'm glad about it. The post-season is very important but the day to day journey of an NBA regular season is awesome. Watching and following the Rockets and a couple of other key teams during the year gives me great pleasure regardless of whether they win the championship or not.

For most people, the enjoyment of following sports (and participating in them) is not solely determined by winning a championship. To each his own, but lots of people would be miserable if they shared your point of view. For all I know, maybe you are.

Cointegration. Look it up and ponder how it applies in sports. Too long to discuss on a board.

That was all Ainge. He found out BS was an ISTP braintype and wanted him because they can perform well in pressure situations. The NJ playoffs sries teh previous year did it for him. He saw BS get it going when nobody else could and wham.

    Ainge braintypes alot of players.

Please, Jeff, leave this team. I like his personalities and I think he is a good coach, but he definitely has no a champion-caliber. If our goal is only to be an elite team in the league, keep him. Ow, we should find someone else.

Guess you either couldn't understand it or figure how to apply it.

I share your sentiment exactly. There is nothing like following your team through the ebb and flow of a regular season. I live for gamedays during the season. I actually get kind of depressed when there is no Rocket game at nite.

I know this is a JVG thread, and I have put my opinion in the sticky, but I had to reply to this post because I too love the NBA regular season. Granted, there is nothing like a Rocket Playoff game, but I get just excited for the regular season games. I miss the Rocket games already. I cant believe we have to wait until late October early November.

This is a good point I agree with. The building and development of the team through the regular season- seeing the team gel-however far they go is the real fun for me watching the Rockets.

In the '92-'93 season - at the end of the season - no one was playing better than the Rockets- they had a 15 game winning streak that season. They got better and better as the season closed. Losing to Seattle was robbery because we did not have home court-beausse of a bad call in the last regular season game with SA.

It was a big disappointment- but everyone knew we had something special. That was a fun season even though we were eliminated.

This was a special season for me- I had fun - went to 18 home games-watched many on TV anytime I could. This team is special and with a little help can make it. If they do not I will still enjoy the development of the team.
Get me a strong power 4 who is not scared to help Yao Mr. Morey!

I manage the people who manage MBA & PhDs from MIT and the likes. MBA and PhD from MIT are good, but those who directly manage them are nothing.

What an ignorant SOB! Where does he think his pay check come from? Those money is directly out of our fans' pockets, and the owner is just pass the money to him. If majority of the fans don't like him, he will be canned.

What the fans want is either winning, or exciting basketball. He couldn't win a playoff series, nor was his basketball exciting.
