If his players weren't able to execute his set offense then he should've seen this and adjusted earlier in the season. Besides no one in the core group were new at the beginning of the season.
We did in fact win 53 games this season and had better than average offensive efficiency despite significant injuries.
52 games. And how was that offensive efficiency against quality opponents. Or in the playoffs? JVG is full of crap.........this is all just the posturing I was talking about. JVG is gone.....gone....GONE ! DD
Cause he's gone, gone, gone I dont know if I'm happy I don't know if I'm sad he's gone gone gone I dont know if i'll cry I dont know if I'll die laughin
Rocks won most of their games against teams they should beat. Statistically they look fine. Against better teams it is a different story. The over use and misunderstanding of statistical analysis is one of the greatest flaws of "money ball" and other statistically based forms of analysis in sports. On average against all teams the Rockets are good, but against top tier teams like the ones you meet in the playoffs, they are not. I work in a field where statistics are broken down to make or lose millions. It's amateur hour when these so called experts try to apply it in sports.
Against teams ranked 1-10 in points differential, the Rockets were 12-15. The Jazz, on the other hanad were an amazing 20-7 against these teams... In the mean time, the Rockets really beat up on all the mediocre and bad teams. The Jazz beat up on the bad teams, too... but against mediocre teams (ranked 11-20 in point differential), they were 12-15.. This tells me that the Jazz likely had a more talented team, but also more inconsistent and gave away a bunch of wins. The Rockets, on the other hand, seems to make very good use of some limited talent (Yes... Tracy and Yao are very talented, but the rest of the team are strictly specialists... some very good ones like Battier, but he's still a specialist).
Even if we had no serious injuries and won 60 games,we would still be in the same position. 2stars and little talent and a coach that knows defence and is unable to make adjustments! The Win Now Scenario failed and JVG and the team with it. Remake of the team, coach and new approach to the game is needed.
The Rockets team that was on the floor on a given night was frequently less talented than the oppositin since they lost about 40 player games from Yao/Tracy. Compare that to 8 games missed by Boozer and 2 by Deron Williams.
Bottom line: Van Gundy probably maximizes the talent he has on the team. Hence our inflated record. Problem: Team doesn't have much talent. Question: Is Gundy responsible for bad personnell decisions?
A lot of people likes JVG for what he says. I agree he knows to say the right things. But, he has failed as a coach as has put this team as it is now. Why is management waiting so long to fire him? This team needs a new direction!!
First off, teams have used this kind of stuff for years, even supposed "old school" coaches and teams track a lot f things like +/-, PER, etc. Second, Morey has an MBA from MIT and has writen a book about it - im pretty sure he has thought about tracking it vs. good teams and bad teams - what are your qualifications exactly?
Sorry, what qualifications are required to be a fan? And, if Morey decides to can JVG, you are ok with that? DD
I don't know if I can agree with this. Usually, when people say another team is more talented than any other, they usually mean that their role players are more developed. We've got a very talented team, but their just not developed very well. Chucky Hayes is going to be a very, very good role player, so will Luther head. Those two played very well for us during the season, and disappeared when we needed them in the play-offs. But they're young, this team is young, to give up on Van Gundy now, would set us back more than loosing McGrady or Yao. He put this team together, he's got them as a top 5 defensive team, he's got Toyota Center Sold out more times than not. I'll confess, I was not too hot on the idea of Van Gundy coming to Houston in the first place. But to deny what he has done, in the short time he's been here, is asinine.
