it's because the anti-Redick people are not even bothering to actually break redick's game down.

They are convinced he is one-dimensional spot up shooter slow as molasses way too small, etc.

If they aren't going to even bother to scout the guy or watch him play and just keep repeating this false stereotype will keep being repeated.

Brewer is much more limited on offense than redick is, to claim Brewer is the one more all around on offense just shows you haven't seen either play.

It's like saying redick clearly jumps higher than Brewer.

You make some good points and your logic is sound but I could also rattle off a pretty convincing list of "athletes" who were never able to develope a decent shot in the NBA, Harold Minor anyone?

Is that your response? You need to come up with a better one because he's not open silly. Comprende ... the perimeter has been taken away by better experienced players than in college.

Do some research. 3-18, 5-21 to name a few. The stat sheet doesn't show much activity except the volume shots.

Laugh all you want because it's sad you don't know the difference between a scorer and a shooter. Point average doesn't define if a player is a scorer or a shooter. Their game does. Was Vernon Maxwell a shooter? No he was a scorer. Next time come up with better responses or don't respond at all.

Mike Miller, Dunleavy, and Korver are not playing with YAO and TMac. The closest thing any of those guys has to a post presense on their team is Miller with Gasol, and that he is a weak post up player to say the least.

Any of those guys would be outstanding spreading the floor with Yao and TMac. They would be way better on our team than they are now with their current teams.

I don't know what NBA you've been watching but the reason teams don't leave shooters is because all most teams can do is put slashers and shooters on the floor. The only truely great, dominant, back to the basket post up big men in this league, are Shaq, Yao, Duncan, and Jermaine to a slightly lesser extent. Curry may eventually become one but he ain't there yet. And Rasheed plays outside 70% of the time.

When teams play the Rockets, they have to double Yao, or they get ate alive. Don't you remember last season? Yao commands a double or a triple. That's precisely why we want Redick. Because if teams are going to put a defender on him out there, then all we've got to do drop the ball into Yao.

Now put all that together with Mike James on the other side, and you've got a handful. Pick your poison. Double 111 and let Redick and James eat you up or let Swift run around loose jamming lobs at the rim. Man up, and 111 eats you up. Zone and you've got McGrady, Redick, and James to shoot holes in you.

Thats why you want the guy with the higher ceiling and great work ethic. Thats why you see guys late in the draft or even 2nd rd picks do well and people wonder how they missed. For every harold minor, there is a Steve alford also. I just think, people want to look at what he does in college and translate to pro's. I think when seeing how a guys game translates, look at the entire picture. look at the teams you're competing with also. I just think that Reddick is pretty much a finished product. JJ Reddicks upside is Jeff Hornecek, Brewers upside is anywhere from Joe Johnson to Josh Howard to Scottie Pippen. The downside Reece gaines and Steve Alford. I just think if I'm going to gamble which is what the draft is, I gamble high. I would like to see the Rox get a guy like James Jones to compete for that 2/3 spot with brewer and bring back Frahm and Bogans.

If i get Mike James, i want a all around guy with him. This guy has to be productive without the ball or alot of shots. Mike James will get his 12 shots or so which is good and between Howard and the other guy will get 8 or 10 apiece.

Detroit and SA never really double T-mac or Ming. Arent those the teams you're trying to beat? Doesn't korver play with a guy named Iverson who always have the ball and always have attention also. what does he do when Prince doesn't leave him?

I just want people to look at the rox not this yr, but last yr in the playoffs. Had the rox had a bigger swing guy, Stackhouse wouldn't have killed the rox and the Rox advance. Fast forward and look at the top teams in the west and the top 3 in the east, really top 2 but i'll throw in NJ and ask yourself: How do we matchup with JJ?

If McGrady wasn't forced to D-up Dirk we might have advanced, we had to put TMac on Dirk because Howard was out and and Swift wasn't on the team yet, with one of those guys on Dirk and TMac on Stack it might have been a different story, we have to athletic swing guys in TMac and Luther, we need shooters.

It doesn't make sense to you because you are presuming Brewer wont' help pay for doubling. And I disagree. If all you want is a player to park at the line then just choose Carney ... he has the long range shot and the potential to be a great individual defender.

We are all discussing offense here for understandable reasons. But if you also look around all the great teams have one player who can shut down or give fits to another player without sacrificing offense. Elie, Bowen, Howard, Posey to name a few. Why not addressl two holes on the roster with one stone?

The whole problem with this argument is that Redick is a more complete offensive player than Brewer is.

    My God.

    Absolutely ridiculous. Arenas?

This isn't against a Redick/RD against the world debate. I don't want the Rockets to draft Redick because I don't think that would be properly utilizing the #8 draft pick. Has nothing to do with a bias or anything.

But, wow. So far in this thread we have likened Redick to Arenas, Nash, Bird(Was that this thread), Redd, Rip Hamilton, Reggie Miller, etc...

And people have called JJ a winner and a "player." JJ played on a forever-loaded Duke team, and he didn't make one NCAA championship game. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying one has to make an NCAA championship game to be a winner or a "player," but if we're going to point to someone's winning qualities, should that person not have at least made a championship game with that much NBA talent around him. In four years, he made it to one final four. Not bad, but I don't know that I'd call him a winner based on that.

It's funny how people accuse others of exxagerations.

Anyway, Arenas was so good according to the pundits he went in the 2nd round.

BTW Arenas is considered "slow" according to the experts by NBA standards.

If you watch Redick score on the perimeter and even how he follows through on his shot off balance fading away with hands in his face it's very similar to Arenas.

But that "scrub" was never going to make in the NBA either.

This year's Duke team was hardly loaded. They overacheived because of Shelden and JJ playing fabulous basketball.

Arenas knock was he was a tweener and not ready. No one ever said he was slow or unathletic and couldn't get his shot off. Now People didn't know about Redd and it was good he had the benefit of not playing for an entire yr before he was slowly entered in. We're talking about the 8th pick in the draft. The 8 th pick is supposed to be not only a starter, but a guy making the all star team a couple of times in his career. If you want a 10ppg role player, you get those guys later in the draft, not top 10.

Arenas was considered slow by NBA standards, just like Cassell fell to 24 because he was nowhere near the athlete Redick is.

Now all of a sudden this history is all revised and the "experts" never said those things about them.

    But they could play.

There's a reason Arenas went so late and it was mainly because he was viewed as an unathletic undersized SG.

Also 6-4 210 he isn't that small, but he was labeled that way.

Lots of teams regretted passing cassell and Arenas because of things like athleticism, and pundit stereotyping.

Look at the history of the draft picks at #8 before you go saying #8 is supposed to be an all star. Your expectations are overboard, and it's ironic because to me Redick is closer to having all star potential than Brewer.

Arenas is much more than a jump shooter. When closed off he drives, takes the contact, and finishes when fouled at the basket. Show me a video of Redick doing that regularly.

As for your more complete offensive player comparison between Brewer and Redick. Only time will tell. We'll see in time whose game will translate better in the nba. For all we know we both could be wrong.

I already told you who I thought he was closest to Michael Redd.

But you just dismiss that with "Redd gets his own shot off", which just shows you didn;t watch too many Duke games.

We're talking about pg's not 2. Generally the 2/3 is the most athletic guy on the team.

    Does this sound like anyone?

Strengths: Terrific outside shooter with astronomical range. A fundamentally sound, strong competitor with great basketball IQ and feel for the game. Capable of huge scoring outbursts, as witnesses by his two 40+ point games this season. Passing and decision making abilities are good.

Weaknesses: Will be playing at the most athletic position in the NBA, the "2" guard position. Will be on the lower end in terms of athleticism and could struggle with the quickness of NBA players. Still must get stronger physically and tougher defensively. Struggles against quick defenders, must learn to use smarts to overcome quickness deficiencies.

Notes: Has started a new trend in college basketball, the 30 foot jumpshot, which defenders normally will give him, but is able to hit the shot consistently to the point where defenders are forced to come out into never never land to guard him. This strategy spreads the defense and makes a drive past them that much easier.

You don't draft based on something like "generally that position is the most athletic on the team."

You keep stressing about getting the best player at #8, well then that's what you draft.
