and Yao being a true 7-6 was disputed by Shawn Bradley who clearly was taller than him whenever they were on court together.
Why should anyone care what an official height says if that's not what the guy is when he's standing on the damn court in HIS particular shoes? He measured out at 6'4.75" in shoes. That's what I care about because that's what he'll be when he's on an NBA court.
Well, everybody else in the NBA is like that. So he's just saying, if you want to compare him with NBA player's height, then you use the "official height".
............because he is higher ranked????? I thought you said the #1 need on this team was perimeter defense??? .....higher ranked?? He's another, thin, outside shooting, tall unproven Euro. Most of them don't make it. ....higher ranked??? J.J. is higher ranked than Brewer and has been all year. Weak, weak, weak. What kind of argument is that, higher ranked?
Look if you can not realize that guys often switch to deifferent shoes even on a game by game basis I seriously don't know what to even say next. He COULD be 6-4 3/4 one game and 6-5 3/4 the next game in shoes. Which is why officially he IS 6-5 1/4 in shoes because the league takes that into account for him and all other players because 1.25 inches added for shoes is the average. This is as simple as 2nd grade math.
jopatmc- Tell me where both Bargnani and Roy are ranked on most mock drafts. Bargnani is being touted as a Top 3 pick and most had him as a potential #1 Overall pick, that is what I mean when I said he is ranked higher. I have ALWAYS said that the Rockets need to pick the bpa, you can interpret that as you want, but when a Top 3 (potential #1) pick falls to you at #8, I would consider that being the bpa. What is so hard to understand? PLEASE show me my post where I said perimeter defense is our #1 need. Click on my name and look at "other posts by gucci888." I have never said that so please stop making crap up. I have always acknowledged that shooting is our #1 need this offseason, I just don't think we need to use a lottery pick to address it. Didn't you post that Bargnani has the ability to become a "special player?"
Actually he's saying that the heights with shoes on can fluctuate so they just give a standard 1.25 inches to everyone's barefoot measurement, but... Why would they even bother taking the "in shoes" measurement if they didn't intend for each player's personal choice of shoe to be taken into account when comparing heights? They would just measure them barefoot and let them go on their merry way.
1. Bradley is 7-5 3/4 barefoot 2.28 m according to international measurements. 2. Bradley also chose barefoot listing like Yao. 3. Yao is also 7-5 3/4 barefoot 2.28 m. 4. Fact is always better than speculation or optical illusions (see below).
All of the JJ supporters need to ask themselves this, when the Rox play Dall,SA,Det, and Mia and they choose not to double Yao and T-Mac can those 2 score enough to win and can JJ score against without the benefit of a double team? Those are my reason why they shouldn't take JJ. A player like JJ in the nba is only effective in spots and circumstances and that to me isn't #8 lotto players. We look at Mike Miller and Korver and look at their playoff history. When teams played against Korver even with a guy named Iverson on the court, Prince just stuck to him and he couldn't score. This is the same guy that lit it up at Creighton. What about Mike miller? What has he done in the playoffs? He has Gasol in the blks, yet he's non effective. Think about when the Rox played the Knicks in the finals with a dominated Hakeem and before zone defenses. The guys that had the most success for us other than Hakeem were shot creators like Maxwell and Cassell. Even when you look at that team, who was the designated 3pt guy or shooters? All those guys were slashers who became shooters. If you ran at maxwell, smith, cassell or elie, they would put the ball on the floor and get to the rack.
If they don't double Yao or Mac, they're going to get killed by them more often than not. Remember the Dallas game last season in which Yao torched them for 27 in the first half. They doubled hard the next half and he was only limited to 9 because none of our shooters could hit enough shots to keep the defense honest. As far talking about Cassell and Mad Max being slashers, going by their man when he comes out to contest the shot. Isn't that exactly what J.J. does? He uses his outside shot to give him lanes at getting inside the defense to get better shots? He uses an assortment of fakes to get his man in the air and then puts the ball on the floor for 2-3 short dribbles to create mid range shots from 10-20 feet. He can effectively draw fouls as well as shown him getting to the line at over 7 times a game.
Brewer and Carney are just like above. So you could not chosoe one over Redick simply based on that argument.
I'm just saying when what can JJ do well when his shot isnt falling? I mean what did Casey Jacobson do? JJ shot very well from 3pt line in college, but in the pro's thats a long jumper. In the pro's no matter who you have, shots are contested and against good defensive teams, they run guys at you. Lets use the theory of the zone and they're leaving your man JJ. A great 3pt shooter shoots 40%. So he needs to go 4-10 to get 12 pts in that. How is that really helping the Rox when he doesn't go 4-10. He doesn't go the rack and probably never will. Lets say teams dont double Yao and T-Mac like sA and Det, then what?
What's that photo supposed to prove? Bradley's leaning back a little and Yao is infront of him going by the floorboards. If anything that photo suggests Bradley is taller than Ming.
JJ is to good a college player to believe he won't be a good NBA player. Maybe he'll never be a star NBA player, but he will be good. If he's our pick at 8 I won't be disappointed, but if they go with a guy like Brewer I could see how he'd be a good fit also. The only thing about JJ that worries me is he may have back issues like T-Mac and that's one thing we need to avoid.
You make valid points. I think it all comes down to what you think Redick is capable of. None of us really know how his skills translate to the NBA. When I see him, I see a good athlete with a motor that doesn't stop. He also happens to be one of the best shooters to ever play. I think that makes him exactly what the Rockets need.
They are the same distance from the camera, notice the elbows and the bottoms of the jerseys. You cannot argue that Bradley is closer because he simply is not as the photo shows. Bradley is standing straight up he's hardly leaning. Also most people have another inch of height above the hairline, and Bradley's is receeding, Yao's is not. It's a real stretch to say Bradley is clearly taller unless you have some sort of bias. The official measurements say both are 7-5 3/4 and the image where they stand back to back same distance rom camera and upright sure the heck seems to verify that. But of course you can deny it all you want.
It may have already been said by someone, but Redick reminds me of Jeff Hornacek from the hated Jazz. As much as I hated him, he made a pretty nice career out of Redick-like skills.
