Brewer: Bad and incorrectible form on shooting. Relies on his athleticism to score. Prone to fade fast with age and injury. Has not translate his athleticism in college into an exceptional edge on offense. Did his scoring against inferior SEC players as opposed to Redick's ACC players.

It is obvious he didnt mean Brewer individually....... he meant athletic players like Brewer tend to fade fast with injury and age.

Only because they depend fully on their phsyical gifts as opposed to having a mental grasp on the game.

Similar to Jordan or Karl Malone adding fade away fumpers to their games.

In turn it added years to their NBA careers.

They would have faded much earlier but they knew how to play the game not just jump around and run really fast.

i dont know why this has topic has become such a popular one but guys face it....REDDICK IS NOT THE OPTION FOR THE ROCKETS!!

the guy can shoot and that is all. yes we need that. but this game is becoming more of a shooting guards/small forward game. There's too many greats in this league that give the rockets enough trouble. With our defensive mentality and JVG style of coaching, we will beat our opponents by not shootin lights out but by first playin great D.

Reddick lays the D and is way too short. I'd enjoy having the kid if we could play some decent D but that's where it lays at. I dont know much about the other guys in the draft, but i know they're all alot more talented than JJ.

For the record, the pro-JJ Redick folks arn't buying your point.

No offense, but you havn't said anything that hadn't been said a gillion times by all the nay-sayers. If you want to hear the counter arguments, go back and read any of the last 48 pages. Every single page in this thread is virtually identical to the previous page. It is amazing that this thread persists. At least JJ got arrested for that DWI and there was something new to discuss for about 10 minutes. ;)

Watching the finals what is the #1 NEED for the Mavs?

A Team that has Jason Terry, Marquis Daniels, Jerry Stackhouse, Josh Howard..............

The #1 NEED is perimeter defense.

Yeah all those long athletic athletes sure are dominating with that perimeter D..................

So he might give up 45 to Wade instead of all the Mavs great long athletic defenders giving up 43 to him?

BTW, Redick's defense by his senior year was dramatically improved, he was the best perimeter defender Duke had probably.

    1. He's taller by 4 inches and quicker than Wesley, he has the possibility to be better on D.

    2. Why does everyone keep saying Marion can shoot?

Put ANY average defender on him in the half court and he would strugglu to get 8 points.

Uh Devin Harris was guarding him the whole game. Doesn't help your point.

Have you seen Wesley's bulk? HEIGHT doesn't matter as much as STRENGTH DOES. Get that through your head.

Jj is a better defender than Wesley is, just watch him his senior year.

I don't mean Wesley from the Hornets I mean Houston Wesley.

Houston Wesley was able to hold players posting up on him because of his strength. Do you honestly BELIEVE Redick is stronger than Wesley? Players posting up on Redick will shove the guy to the ground.

How do you suppose devin harris is long he is about the same height more athletic version of redick as far as body goes redick is too small and non athletic to play in the league he has absolutly no pg skills and he just sucks if JJ were guarding wade last night he would have gone for 60 and a blow out!
Brewer on the other hand could have held him to about 30!

Sorry RD, but there is no way you can convince us that JJ is a better defender than Wesley was. Injuries did hamper his D last season, but Wesley was possibly our best defender the season before last. Wesley was a full-time defender on SGs that season, he was the one that guarded Kobe, Lebron, Allen, etc...and he did a very good job on them.

    Harris is 6-3.

Wow! RD, you're becoming the king of rants on this board. You make ridiculous comments that you can't backup.

This is quite possibly the dumbest comment you've made since joining this board. If ANY average defender can hold Marion to 8 points, what do you think he would do to JJ Redick?

I have a feeling you're gonna be really disappointed come the 28th.

LOL. And the funny thing is, if Miami had just one dead eye shooter outside, they would have already put away Dallas. But they've had to limp along with Jayson Williams, Gary Payton, Walker, and Posey occasionally knocking them down. And Shaq is having to battle 3 defenders because Dallas would much prefer for those 4 guys to be jacking up long balls. The only reason Miami is winning is because of the indominatable will of Wade, not settling for the jump shots and forcing it inside. If Miami had one dead eye shooter to spread the floor instead of the hit and miss guys they've got, this series is over in 5 at most.

And look at all the zone BOTH teams are playing. Good ole gritty Pay Riley has even resorted to the zone. Why? Because it is the most effective method of denying penetration.

Shooting is going to become even more important as more and more teams realize that the antidote to the new perimeter touch rules is a good effective zone, especially with the dirth of shooters in the league and the excess of dribble drive one on one penetrators.

If height doesnt matter, then why is everyone making a big deal that redick is only 6'4.
