If we don't get some more offensive talent on this team, you can add as many lock down defenders as you like, and we still won't go anywhere. DD
Shooting is shooting. The goal is 10 ft high, its the same ball, same court, college or pro. He may get hot and cold from time to time. Everybody does I'll take my chances with JJ rather than carney or brewer shooting the ball. The only players i'd take oevr JJ would be Aldridge, Tyrus Thomas, Gay and maybe Roy. That's not saying Redick is the 4th or 5th best player, he one of the best fits for the Rockets.
I totally forgot about Adam Morrison, but I'd definetely take Gay,Thomas and Roy ahead of him, but not Redick.
Brewer actually seems like a very solid pick to me. Someone that will bring something to the game every night...even if his offensive game is not clicking!!!
It always cracks me up when I see someone quote the experts on certain guys. These same experts were almost all quoted as saying Yao would be a bust and we should pick Williams instead. Except for a small percentage of obvious superstars entering the draft such as Duncan and Lebron everybody is a crapshoot. Just about unanimously Griffin was hailed as our PF solution when we traded for him, now that was a bust. Or the year we had 3 picks and we passed on R.Lewis. You never know for sure who's going to work out and who's going to shine. There is no doubt Redick can shoot, if someone doesn't drop out of the top 6 guys, the Rockets can do worse than pick this kid. They need a shooter in the worse way, he'll get hurt defensively like everyother rookie does so I'm not sure why this is even an issue.
sure, Houston can do lot worse in drafting Reddick but they can also do a whole lot better. If houston drafts him it means they "settled" for a shooter in lottery instead of drafting players who bring a whole lot more to the table. The guy is 6'3 with a 6'2 wingspan....
He is already better than Jon Barry ever was or ever would have been. Let's just get to the draft, I can't wait for it to happen so we can move on.... Heck, I wish it was October already. DD
Do you really think Sam Cassell, Jason Terry, Steve Nash, Gilbert Arenas, Jeff Hornacek, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson or Reggie Miller plays or played shutdown defense??? Its if you can play or not, its what you add to the team thats important. Its if you are a plus to the team or not. How many guys are stinko on one team, move to another than shine. Its if your game fits with the team thats as important or more important than just mere talent. They all have talent at that level. If Boris Diaw isn't the perfect example of that, can't play for Atlanta for pete's sake, than stars for Phoenix. That's why Redick may be a great fit for this team, he'll spread the floor better than anyone we have on the team now.
He was talking about guys who are below average defensive players, yet became very important players to their own teams due to their outstanding ability to play the game. JJ fits perfectly in that context. DD
Maybe already posted, but in case it's not. Early Sunday morning, ESPN classic will be showing Rockets game 7 vs Knicks, then Game 4 vs Orlando.
The comparison is to be made of their college careers-- not THEIR pro careers vs. Redick's collegiate career.
But look at what all those guys bring to the game besides shooting. Sam Cassell- Great ball handler, good passer. Jason Terry- Look above. Steve Nash- Great ball handler, the best passing PG in the NBA. Gilbert Arenas- Good ball handler, can pass, shoot, and penetrate. Larry Bird- Great ball handler, great passer (I can't believe Bird and Magic were even brought up in this debate). Magic Johnson- Look at Bird. Reggie Miller- Clutch as it gets, was also a pretty good penetrator early on in his career. Redick doesn't have the ball handling or passing ability close to any of those guys mentioned. The reasons why those guys had the success they have/did is because they are versatile players. The all can score, handle the ball, and pass.
