It did, it was based on McGrady saying Carney was working out with him. I put the most realistic player in there based on recent events and the likely outcomes. The articles from Chad Ford and Houston Chronicle had forced me to change my sig. My sig is not about what I want, it is all just a guess.
agreed, Redick would definately help this team but picking him number 8 would be too high for him. heres a trade i thought that could work Atlanta Receives: #8 Pick 2006 Draft (from hou) #15 Pick 2006 Draft (from NO) New Orleans Receives: #5 Pick 2006 Draft (from ATL) Bob Sura (from HOU) Houston Receives: #12 Pick 2006 Draft (from NO) JR Smith (from NO)
How many people would want Ben Gordon on this team? 2nd round of the playoffs: Dallas runs out Nowitzki, Howard, Terry, Adrian Griffin, and Diop. Houston runs out Yao, McGrady, Redick, Rafer, and Swift. Who is Dallas going to help on? Houston brings the ball down. Yao posts up on the left block. McGrady dribbles away at the 3 point line on the left wing. Swift is standing at the top of the key ready to set the screen if needed. J.J. is in the left corner. Rafer is on the right side 3 point line extended. McGrady dumps the ball in to Yao posted up with Diop on his hip. Griffin and Howard are caught in the Bermuda triangle with their heads spinning. Whatcha u gonna do? Make a move. They freeze. Yao takes a dribble step toward the lane. Stro's man drops down to help him. Stro runs right down the lane for the dunk. Next possession same scenario. Griffin and Howard once again in the Bermuda triangle. Before Yao starts his move Griffin drops in to force him to give it up. He tosses it back to Redick. Chaching. Next possession same scenario. But this time Dallas decides to change up the D. They take out Diop and bring in Stack. They put Howard on Yao fronting defense. They let Dirk sag off Swift to help on Yao. And now the perimeter matchups are Rafer-Terry, Griffin-McGrady, Stack-Redick. We drop Swift down to the low right block. Let them clog up yao. Bring McGrady over the the middle of the floor. Put Redick and Rafer in the corners. Better yet, substitute Head for Rafer and put Redick and Head in the corners. Let McGrady do whatever he wants with the basketball. Dallas ain't stopping us. Ahhhh, so Dallas decides to press us since we don't have a true point on the floor. So, bring Rafer right back in, break the press, and then let Rafer take it to the rack and dish out to his shooters....McGrady and old "Dead Eye dick". Or bring in Rafer and take out Yao and matchup small with the 3 guards, Mcgrady, and Swift. Would Brandon Roy be a better fit doing those things? He would probably be almost as good offensively for us and a lot better defensively for us. Will he be available? If so, we take him. If not, we should think long and hard about the Redick option. Would Carney be a better fit doing those things? It's highly questionable. He's got questionable work ethic and basketball IQ. But he's got great athleticism. I'd rather have the guy with great work ethic, great IQ, and slightly below average athleticism. If we could trade the 8th pick and wind up with Redick and somebody else, I think that would be great value.
Redick is a great value at number 8. Players picked at number 8 over the last 10 years. Link to draft 1995 - Shawn Respert 1996 - Kerry Kittles 1997 - Adonal Foyle 1998 - Larry Hughes 1999 - Andre Miller 2000 - Jamal Crawford 2001 - DeSagan Diop 2002 - Chris Wilcox 2003 - TJ Ford 2004 - Rafael Areujo 2005 - Channing Frye So, I don't know what kind of talent you guys expect to get at the number 8 pick, I see a lot of decent players here, but Redick is certainly a better pick than most of them. And, how many of them were effective players in their first year? TJ Ford, and that is about it..... JJ at number 8 is a great value. DD
Nope...wont happen. Bob Sura is junk...garbage. Ralph Sampson has better knees than him. Houston would basically be gettin a somewhat proven athletic player and only take a small step down in draft position. Because both the 8th nad 12th spots are almost equal...this trade is pretty much an athletic player with a future for a pair of blown out knees. I'd do this in a heartbeat. But it wont happen. Now maybe if you throw in a player like Head...maybe!
I agree DD. In fact I was about to post a similar list of players. Great minds I suppose. Also, I am not a proponent of trading "down" to pick up JJ, heck, I am hoping he is even there when we pick. I have heard that Boston is really interested in having him on their team....
I would love to have half of that list but you might see me cry if we draft redick over rodney carney we need to move up and get gay!
I think you have a point with the race issue. It's a case of reverse discrimination when you're not black in the NBA. If A.I. was white some fans would claim he's to short and slow to play in the NBA. Watching JJ's clips I had no idea he could handle the ball as well as he did and yes he has NBA 3pt range on his shot easily.
Perfect squad: Alston Redick T-Mac Bowen Yao A liability on each end of the court, yes. But with the extra weapon to punish the assumed double-team from Bowen's man, it could work offensively. Defensively, Bowen got enough of an engine to keep perimeter 4s honest and assist Redick if he's in trouble (but that's the great part of having a 7'6" Yao in the paint!). Redick will be servicable. I've said my peace.
which players? DD posted 11 players, half would imply at least 5 players you'd want more than Redick... Setting aside Rockets' needs, if you were to start a team for next year only... There might be 4 players you'd take over Redick from that list (assuming players are in their primes): Andre Miller, Larry Hughes, Channing Frye, T.J Ford... None of the other players would really be worth considering over Redick, IMHO... But to say that you should expect a sure-thing at no. 8 would be turning a blind's eye to the realities of the draft's history... Obviously, Redick has limitations (perceived and real) and question marks; It's just as obvious that any other player available at 8 would also have their limitations and question marks. I will admit that I went to Duke and probably has a biased perspective, but I also think that familiarity does tend to make one a better judge of talent than reading internet scouting reports. Based on my untrained eye, I am confident in saying that there isn't going to be better fit for the Rockets at No.8 than J.J. Redick
Yes with tmac, his boy, at his side you dont have to worry about work ethic on the next level redick is going to be a shooter and only a shooter so why not bring a guy in who is a shooter a lock down defender and has the chance to be the next jason richardson?
Wait you did say Rodney Carney. This guy will be the next Darius Miles, the next Qyntel Woods, the next-no-passion-still-loaded-with-potential-but-is-still-a-scrub-and-still-trying-to-figure-it-out-but-probably-never-will.
Yeah, TMac did wonders for Stromile. Stro's been living with him this summer and working on his game? Carney has a great chance of being the next Harold Miner. He had trouble getting motivated to play college ball dude. Motivatation is a lot bigger deterrant than lack of athleticism.
Frye Ford Crawford Hughes Wilcox Andre Miller so more than have i would probably want kittles over him to maybe even Diop redick=disaster! He will be the next lattener!
