Donte Greene reminds me a lot of Eddie Griffin.

From what I am reading Greene is a project to be developed and Dorsey is a defensive banger, listed at 6-9. Not sure what all this means for chuck hayes except that Hayes is reported to have a higher Bball IQ.
I am dissapointed we did not get a SG/SF to take the stress from Tmac. Tmac primary backup is Head who is undersized.

Dorsey is going to compliment Yao very well. Dorsey and Yao in the paint would scare any team from coming in.

[CHRONIC] Au revoir to Batum. Bonjour Greene and Dorsey.

    http://blogs.chron.com/franblinebury/2008/06/au_revoir_to_batum_bonjour_gre.html

It was wheeling and dealing Rockets-style on draft night.

It didn't take long for the Rockets to say au revoir to their first round draft pick from France.

Just a short time after taking the 19-year-old small forward with the No. 25 selection in Thursday's NBA draft, the Rockets completed a pair of deals that sent away Batum and got two players in return.

Those two players are Donte Greene of Syracuse and Joey Dorsey of Memphis.

Greene, a 6-11 forward, was chosen by the Memphis Grizzlies with the 28th pick in the first round.

Dorsey, who played in the NCAA championship game with the University of Memphis, was taken with the No. 33 pick acquired from Portland.

Nobody can ever say that Rockets GM Daryl Morey just sits around making picks and then watching TV on draft night. Not when there are phone lines to burn up and possible deals to be made.

When it became obvious that Greene was falling to them, the Rockets jumped to action.

First, they sent the No. 25 pick (Batum) to Portland for No. 27 and 33. Then they flip-flopped No. 27 and No. 28 with Memphis. That sent Darrell Arthur to the Grizzlies and Greene to the Rockets. Houston also picked up a second-round pick in 2009 from Memphis for dropping down. Finally, the Rockets plucked Dorsey with the No. 33 pick.

"We thought we got the two best players who were available at that point," Morey said. "We made a bet for the future in Greene and we got a guy that we think can help us with his aggressiveness next season Dorsey."

There were some other players that the Rockets were trying all night to trade up for in the first round. But when that was unsuccessful, they made the best of their situation.

Considering that they have 11 players under contract and two more (Landry and Mutombo), the Rockets went likely to get a player at 25 who was going to play a significant role next season. So the plan was to take a flyer on a young, athletic wingman and hope they hit the jackpot on that potential. I think it was a good idea.

As for Dorsey, when he's good, he can be very, very good. Yes, he's another undersized player on the frontline for a team that already has Landry and Hayes. But Dorsey's bulk and quickness could compensate for his lack of height. And it is good to add a player to the roster who likes to gobble up rebounds and finishes at the rim with dunks.

The Rockets rolled the dice. Sometimes you have to admire the gamblers.

I never watched Greene (I actually turned on a couple of Syracuse games, but was bored stiff), but I watched Dorsey both on TV and in person. He is a badass. He's a meaner version of Paul Millsap. He was huge part of the Memphis tournament run, and he and CDR were the only consistency they've had over several good years.

I wont judge these picks until after the summer. These are not the players we needed to get better next year. So, I think Morey has plans to make some trades and bring in some scorers. If he does that, then i'm very happy with these picks. Greene wont crack the rotation for another year or two, but i think when he does he will be a nice weapon to have on the floor. Dorsey could replace hayes in training camp. I like his strength and athleticism around the paint.

Lee, does this indicate to you that the Gerald Green experiment is over? Can't see them bringing him back if they went for Donte Greene. As for the 2nd round, I would have liked to see them go after Mario Chalmers - I'm very disappointed in the selection of another undersized PF.

That's what we want to believe but it's probably not going to happen.

Greene = young Robert Horry? Tall, reasonably athletic small forward who can shoot -- but is perhaps too enamored with the outside shot -- and a pretty good weakside shotblocker?

Greene is way more athletic than when Horry came out of college. He does fall in love of settling for jump shots, but he is still immature and will learn not to settle for jump shots.Greene reminds of me Rashard Lewis/Marvin Willams type player.
