Luther is nothing special, I would hold onto him for now and hope someone bites on that small contract he has.

He is nothing more than insurance, with a healthy team he has a limited role. Dude is undersized, below par handles and is a horrible team defender that plays with a low BB-IQ.

What he can do is nail jump shots and he plays hard 1 on 1 D.

We will see what happens but I bet he gets lost in the shuffle.

    Not so much:

    1. Gary payton was known as the GLOVE for his stellar defense on points or two gaurds. Quick point gaurds destroy luther, and most shooting gaurds manhandle him.

    2. Gary payton had an awesome array of midrange moves--floaters, scoops, post ups, that allowed him to score in a variety of ways and beat the crap out of smaller/weaker gaurds. Luther not only lacks such moves (at least that we've seen so far) but is also the type of gaurd GP would probably post up

He might have more hops...but still, saying he's like a GP with less court vision and more hops is like saying "Stromile is like a less fundamental Tim Duncan with more hops." It doesn't quite pan out.

Dude can shoot and cut though...and in the princeton O, you cant undersell the importance of those things. I do think he'll fit well, but i don't see him being a high impact player.

Forget classy approach, please change the thread title and reference Head's name to something explicit or something like the other title lol

haters? He seems like a nice guy he is just limited as hell, the reason so many of us get on him is the simple fact he seems to have very low basketball iq

I was eating sushi with an employee of the Rockets shortly after the draft. He talked about Luther having "weird hips" that limit his movement laterally. They believe this is the reason he has a difficult time guarding quick guards. He said the Rockets were absolutely in love with him despite this flaw. It will be interesting to see how he does in Adelman's system. I wonder what Rick has under his sleeve.

    exactly.

It's funny to see posters cling onto a little adelman blurb mentioned in passing in the article as if that's proof that he'll be getting significant minutes. Like adelman or morey are going to say something negative about him.

He's a decent spot up shooter, but more importantly he's trade bait for Morey to play with.

Luther is not perfect, but I agree with his agent as well, Luther is worth more than his contract.. Right move for the management..

It is quite possible that Morey will keep Head for after Mike James. If I am not mistaken, Mike's contract is for another 2 years. Regardless, Head is very similar to Mike James, so having Head takes over MJ's role makes sense.

    it is more than that

    Luther Head....L and H
    Mike James....M and J

    look at those initials....

    M minus 1 = L
    J minus 1 = H

I kid you not. It is no harmonic!!!

This is great news. I've always thought that Luther could be a really explosive scorer if he learned to move without the ball like T-Mac does, especially coming off screens Ray Allen style. JVG hardly ever utilized him in that role though -- he was mostly relegated to spot up shooting. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what Adelman can do with him -- he could potentially have a breakout year.
