a. why are people acting like we're gonna start using mo to spread the offense as if that hasn't been happening the entire time he's been here? cato clogged the offense, taylor spread it. he's been hitting 20 footers since that first season he was here. it's not like this is some new strategy. b. someone said it's only 3 feet from 20 footers to 3 pointers. yeah, but it's a long 3 feet. aside from the mental aspect of shooting a 3, there is just a huge difference in long mid-range jumpers and 3 pointers. i'm glad someone mentioned chris webber. webber can drain 18 footers just as well, if not better than, taylor, but him shooting 3's isn't really a good idea. he'll hit one every once in a while, but in general if you're the D you're happy to see him take it. unless he's going to develop horry-like proficiency and not EG like proficiency, it's not really worth it. c. which brings up the fact someone said he only needs to hit 33% to be like a 50% shot. well, there are a ton of 1's, 2's, and 3's in this league that can shoot 3's within 2/3 of the percentage of their 2's and yet for a lot of them it's not a good idea to take any more 3's than necessary. 33% is bad. 35 and up is where you start getting to the guys who can take 3's. 33 and under is bad. EG shot 33% and while he occasionally hit a few, more often than not he hurt us. mo would need to at least reach 35% accuracy to be a real threat. d. why are people saying mo doesn't post up? he mixes in his post ups and face ups well IMO. however, his posting up is mostly a jump hook to the middle or spinning back (and either traveling or getting away with traveling) to the right for a layup. but you can only do that so much before the D is all over it. hell, he already has to force the hook up over good D since they overplay it. he still hits it, but it's gets tougher each time. his face up is just as money as his post up. facing up from 15 for mo can practically be like a layup some games when he's on. e. mo shooting 3's just seems weird and trying to make someone be something they are not. he spreads the floor nicely with 18 and 20 footers, don't force him out to the 3 point line. there's probably a reason he never got his game out that far and i don't think it's just not having taken 100 3's every day in the summer. maybe this'll all work out beautifully or maybe we'll never try it at all and this is just BS, but i don't think it's a good idea.
I have this weird feeling that Gundy loves MoT. Lot of people here spectulate that Gundy will trade away MoT. I think quite the oppsite, Gundy will keep Mo. By the way, Michigan's big man are pretty much alike, Webber, Howard, MoT. Can MoT be like Webber?
Just wanted to correct myself, Mo-T has never hit a 3 as a Rocket. Anyway, don't get too crazy with this, we'll try it and see if its going to work or not then we'll stop if its not working out, this isn't a Boki-like case where he was known to be a good 3pt shooter and its a part of his game but not hitting it, it'll be a bonus if he can hit it, if he can't then he wont be in rebounding position.... which is normal
The title of that article made me laugh. I was confused because I thought Mo Taylor has had the green light ever since he was on the Clippers. He's got the green light and he seems to love to light it up. [/immaturity]
Let's say Mo gets 10 shots a game If they 3's . . then he only hits 3~4 as oppose to the 5 shots he hits from two [33% v 50%] Those 2 extra possessions by the other team could mean 3s on their end. Rocket River
I don't see the argument that you are making here. If he makes the shot, the other team gets the ball. If he misses, we may get the ball through an offensive board. In fact, a missed three point shot often has a long rebound that can bounce right back to the team that shot it.
Anyone else find it ironic that EG's game actually fits better with this team than with his previous one? He is EXACTLY the type of PF this team needs, one that rebounds, blocks shots and hits the 3......dang mar1juana....... DD
JUST A THOUGHT- pls dont take it seriously... hmm i realized something... Hakeem = Yao Drexler = Tmac Jim Jackson = Horry Mot = Elie?.... someone else? 3 pt shooter? this is just a thought.... is JVG tryin to recreate a new generation of the CHAMPIONSHIP ROCETS?
I guess this is my point. Long rebounds PROBABLY won't favor us. The perimeter will be TMAC JJ Mo and Ward Mo and Ward are not exactly quick and JJ is average So the other team could be off to the races I guess fast break points will be something to watch Rocket River we shall see . .
It wasn't the pot, it was the mental issues that caused him to shoot a gun at someone. Pot was, at worst, a symptom of the problem.
I can understand the need for our players to spread out the defense for Yao and T-Mac. And the best way to do that is to be deadly from the perimeter... .... but... Shouldn't that shooting be coming from our guards? I always got the impression that our 1's and 2's are the ones who need to be dangerous from long range, our 3's sometimes able to hit a three, but usually good at slashing in and at hitting midrange jumpers.
