I wouldn't categorize the Rockets as "suckers" for being willing to take on Jeffries's contract. Quite the contrary, they are being opportunists.

Assuming that the Rockets fully intend to re-sign Scola and Lowry, then adding Jeffries's salary next season will have close to ZERO impact on the Rockets from a salary cap or luxury tax standpoint. Just that Les will be paying an extra $7M in salary.

And, yes, Jeffries has a trade kicker that comes out to about $2M total, but (a) I bet the Knicks will cover that with cash they'll send the Rockets' way and (b) the cap effect of the trade kicker is minimal and shouldn't be a roadblock to the deal getting done.

Trust me, this trade is a WINDFALL for the Rockets, especially if the other option was to let McGrady's contract expire.

The Bulls may be able to offer better players FOR THIS YEAR (e.g., Brad Miller), but Morey is not dealing McGrady in order to improve the team for THIS season. The reported Knicks deal is a move that could set the Rockets up nicely for years to come.

NY trade is the last option.......other than sitting on McGrady.

I see your point, but Im just not excited by the deal at all. It seems like a Win-Win situation for NY's immediate rebuilding efforts. I have never been a huge fan of the draft. I always say the draft is for losers. Getting a special player in the draft crop is usually far and between. I do understand its better assets to have for trade also, but I was just hoping for more. Jordan Hill just has so many red flags to me. I'm trying to get aboard this deal, but Im struggling.

BimaThug, man they just don't get it. You can explain and explain all you want. These 'NBA GMs' on here just know so much about contracts and what other teams were trying to give us for McGrady. They were listening to the phone calls in Morey's office and sat in on meetings with him and Les and Rick as well. They also know the plan for the team in the next 3-5 years. They know everything that Morey should do and if he doesn't its a bad deal and he sucks as a GM. So good luck trying to explain lol

Jordan Hill + picks sounds more like a "rebuilding effort" or one that is for the future. Morey has said he will not make a trade just for now nor will he make a trade just for the future. He wants one that can help now and the future. Though we shall wait and see what happens?!

Sorry, I'll stop! Please accept my apology, I just really like Andre Iguodala ever since the 2006 dunk contest in Houston and wished he was with the Rockets ever since then. Sorry if I offended anyone!

After rethinking there are 2 good things Larry's chucking brings:

1- Larry brings us under the LT this year while Al did not
2- More loses = higher 2010 draft pick!

Still don't want him. I'd be tempted to just buy him out but #2 does have some promise. And since he only has a few months remaining in a contract year, I think he will be chucking away. And since he hasn't played much lately and never was a great shooter, he make Ariza look better.
