Of course Broussard will say that, the Rockets are already said to be one of the teams that would gamble on a rental. So is CB saying anything that wasn't already out there? NO. Broussard is always late to the game, when has he ever been the one to break something? Never that I've seen.
I think this is a given....i was expecting this to be Melo himself saying we were an option, now that would be news, but Houston being an option for Denver has always been open. It's all going to come down to a combination of where melo will go or not and what they get back. We're like a worst case scenario for them, if Melo decides he'd rather wait it out. We only take a step up if we sweeten the offer.
Im sure Morey can just replace what we lost in the second round like he does every year, and who knows maybe he can sell him on teaming him with dwhite in the future
Pretty much this. Broussard is not an insider and I take everything he says with a grain of salt. During the summer it was Lebron is going to Chicago, Lebron is going to NY, or Bosh is joining Lebron in Cleveland. Stephen A Smith of all people had it right when he reported that all 3 of them were looking to join up in Miami. He just tosses out one rumor after another and hopes one of them has some legs.
I think it's worth a shot if we can keep Martin and Patterson. The new CBA could give players such a huge incentive not to leave that Melo might stick with us especially if we are successful the rest of this year with him. Also, the CP3 situation could be coming to a boiling point by the beginning of next season that we are in a position to get him which would be another reason for Melo to stay. At the very worst we end up with a huge trade exception and losing a few young players none of which would be a superstar.
Broussard just said on espn that Carmelo could possibly be moved before the trade deadline. This is huge news! I can't believe this guy gets paid for this ****.
Why did my post get attatched to this.......and I finally thought i broke some news and it ends up on page 8 boyyyy
It's funny how delusional some people are about this guy. You think there would be any arguments like this about acquiring Wade, Rose, Paul, Dirk, KD, Kobe, Pau, KG? Superstars are superstars, you dont break the bank and trade away your future for anything less.
First, it's called and "exception". And secondly, it's not as easy as you've described. You get a "traded player exception" when your trade partner has cap space to take an incoming contract. (No need for a salary match in the trade). Since the current CBA is expiring, no one knows what the new CBA will have in terms of exceptions. Or what the cap will be when the smoke clears. It might be better to have Melo's contract as opposed to not. But as he says about Houston... It was then joked to Anthony that the music websites are saying he'll end up in Houston. "What?'' Anthony said. "To rap.'' http://nba.fanhouse.com/2011/01/13/carmelo-anthony-says-hell-see-injured-lebron-james-again-with-n/
Not only that, but they can't combine picks or players with an exception. If we got a TPE for Melo, the only way we get more would be if we were also sending them something else, and we got them to overpay for that something else. I expect Melo will sign his contract this year. If it is to us, there will be an implicit agreement to trade him to NY next season for pre-specified assets.
Neither do I. I can see if we were one player away from the championship, but it's going to take more then Melo to take us to the finals. I guess if we trade away our core for a one year rental in Anthony that would guarantee that we would be one of the worst teams in the league next season giving us a top 3 pick in the 2012 draft.
Not so. An under-the-cap Knicks team would not be "sending" us a trade exception, since they would be using their own CAP SPACE instead to (largely) absorb Melo's salary. They could send players making less, in the aggregate, than Melo's cap figure. The resulting difference in the cap figure would be the amount of a trade exception GENERATED to Houston for use over the following 12 months. At least it would be under the current CBA.
We'll see what happens, this next month can't go quickly enough. I can't remember the last time an inevitable departure dragged out so much. It all comes down to the Nets: If Melo agrees, he's gone, he's extended, Knicks are left in the cold. If Melo refuses, the Knicks step up, but the Nuggets will happily screw him/them over and ship him to rental (us) if the Knicks' offer is topped. Given how crummy the Knicks' offers are, that won't be hard to do. I still don't expect to see him here, but I'm certain that the roster is going to look pretty different in March.
I can. It was last year, with Chris Bosh and the Toronto Raptors. For point of reference, the Raptors decided not to trade Bosh during the season, weighed their sign-and-trade offers after the season ended, and even when Bosh forced their hand by publicly agreeing to sign with Miami, the Raptors still managed to get the following out of the situation: A $14.5M trade exception Toronto's own 2011 first round pick back (previously traded to MIA for Shawn Marion) Miami's own 2011 (lottery-protected) first round pick Of course, Denver's situation is further complicated by the unknown ramifications of the new CBA, most notably how sign-and-trade deals will be handled or whether they will even be allowed under the new deal. But still, when weighing against what they can get now, it's not like Denver is totally screwed if they don't trade Melo by the trade deadline this year.
#ChrisMannixSI RT @LEXthePEX If Morey can't get Melo, what is plan B for the Rockets? ... They are going to make some move with assets/picks they have
