What you are saying is pretty logical and even likely to happen, but what should be more resounding in everyone’s mind is that the New Jersey deal hinges on Melo saying yes to an extend and trade, if he says no, NJ bolts and we, New York and a couple teams more enter the picture and at that point you, can bet your life Denver would have our respective offers on the table way before deadline, they would just have to choose to their liking. I like what you are basically saying, if Morey doesn’t pull off that trade with the Knicks then our chances of acquiring Melo go from being a plan B to rock-bottom. Conversely, if the Knicks don’t succumb to us then they would be clear-cut favorites to land Melo. And here's why: A package of expirings in JJ and Curry, Plus[*]Intriguing former lotto picks in Hill and Randolph, Plus [*]A couple solid player in Gallo, Chandler or Fields, Plus[*]A couple future 1st rounders It is not as good as what the Nets have to offer but it’s certainly the closest thing. There’s no doubt in my mind that the Knicks would have gotten Melo in this scenario. Why? Because all Melo has to do is say no to an extension in NJ and Denver would have to gladly settle for the next best thing, which would be New York’s package that all in all, would be a pretty good and fair deal as well.
NY making moves toward Melo. http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archi..._randolph_for_pick_deal_in_place_with_wolves/
Hard to imagine the T-Wolves would trade their own pick without some kind of protection on it. They also have the Grizzlies' first round pick but that also has a top 14 protection on it.
Let's hope not. Randolph's real value is not beyond a lottery protected pick, I expect Kahn not to screw up on that. Now imagine what holds more value, a lottery protected pick from a team that for the next couple of years is expected to end there, or a lottery protected pick from a playoff team? That “Minny” pick is next to pennies unless Kahn gets outhustled and concedes not to protect it to a certain point. For the people who want Randolph here this rumor tells you that we can have him whenever we want, because the 2012 pick we have from the Knicks is way more valuable to them (it affords them to trade their 2011 and 2013 at the same time) than a lottery protected Minny one.
I have a hard time believing Minny is gonna give up a first for AR. They don't need him. They've got bookend PFs. If they are going to give up a pick for AR it is undoubtedly Utah's 2011 pick that is top 16 protected and not likely to even be that high anyways since Utah currently has the 6th best record in the NBA and is likely to end up with the 9th or 10th best record in the NBA this season at worst, which makes that pick likely around 20-21 at best and probably lower than that. If indeed NY can come to the table with Chandler, Gallo, and Utah's first round pick along with a future pick of their own, then I would think Morey could get involved here and up the ante. Giving the Knicks back pick swap rights for Anthony Randolph plus a future Knicks first rounder would be in play. Not to mention rerouting talent through Houston using Brooks to get Denver more of what they want. If Batum is gettable, then Denver may want to go through Houston and we wind up with Chandler and Randolph and Nene while Denver gets Batum, Patterson, Gallo, Budinger, and a couple picks and salary cap relief from Yao's contract to get under the cap. There's a 3-way or 4-way trade available that will get the Rockets either Nene and Randolph/Chandler or Melo himself to Houston if the Nuggets want to investigate it.
Minnesota also has a top-16 protected 2011 first rounder from Utah (which, along with the Memphis pick, was acquired in the Al Jefferson trade). My guess is that it's the Utah pick that gets traded for Randolph.
Agree. I seriously dislike those three players and could not bear to see them in Rockets uniforms or watch them play. They are also not Morey's "type". It makes me sick to think and worry about trades - as much who we would get as whom we would lose. Call me an eejit but I love every player on our team (save one) and don't want to lose any of them.
Houston still an option according to Broussard lock if posted....... If Anthony eventually nixes a move to New Jersey and tells Denver he will only sign an extension with New York, the Nuggets would likely either trade him to the Knicks or a club like Houston that would be willing to trade for him without his signing an extension. http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/nba/news/story?id=6019859
Probably the Wildcat connection plus Jefferies, maybe battier. I'm sure a third team would be involved.
I don't see the point in a Carmelo rental. If he doesn't sign the extension then he doesn't want to stay here after the season
It might not be too bad. When Melo bolts, we can land a huge trade exemption from the Knicks (maybe even a prospect or two) and use that exemption on a star-quality player (like the Jazz did with Boozer's exemption to land Jefferson).
Everyone is expendable until we acquire a legit franchise player, that's should be priority #1 if we ever want to be relevant again.
Agreed but in this scenerio that franchise player might only play on our team for less than half a year.
It's like that girl that you just keep bugging until she goes out with you. She's in a long distance relationship for at least 9 more months and isn't sure. You assure it's just friends. Pretty much 80's or Hugh Grant movie ever, only with Morey
