Good ol upside and athletic ability. Favors has had a few flashes but has not shown much. Playing time has been inconsistent thus far. I'm not saying he won't live up to the hype, just saying.
At least the longer the trade goes on, the more unsettled Denver will be. Making them lose games as a result

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/basketball/nba/01/10/carmelo.anthony.rockets/index.html As the Nets and Pistons wait for a decision from Denver on the future of Carmelo Anthony, the Houston Rockets have quietly made a push to acquire the All-Star forward, league sources told SI.com. While the Rockets don't have a franchise talent like New Jersey's Derrick Favors, they can offer cap relief in the expiring contract of Yao Ming ($17.7 million), Shane Battier ($7.4 million) and Jared Jeffries ($6.9 million), as well young talent like leading scorer Kevin Martin or Aaron Brooks, the NBA's 2009-10 Most Improved Player. Houston also has the right to swap draft picks with the Knicks in 2011 and it owns New York's pick outright in 2012. It is unclear if Anthony would be willing to sign an extension with Houston or if the Rockets are willing to make a deal for Anthony without the extension. Sources told SI.com in August that Anthony would be willing to sign with the Rockets but that was before Yao's season-ending injury. One source said that while the Rockets were discussing a trade for Anthony they were "not close" to a deal on Monday.
Martin could go, if Melo doesn't resign it gives us more capspace to sign someone else this summer or in 2012. Lee and T-Will could man the ship if lets say we overpay for Gasol.
I follow the nets quite closely as i have a friend who is a nets fan (and down here in Aus i dont have many basketball fans to speak with about the game). Coincidently today i said to him that Patterson will be the better player. He disn't agree so we have a nice $50 wager on it. Patterson imo looks more polished, but Favors has time on his side.
DM could be doing this for brownie points with Denver. This puts pressure on NJ to hurry up and give Denver what they want. I know he knows what he is doing, but I really hope we don't sign Melo as a rental.
While the Rockets can't offer up the draft picks the Nets can, they can certainly absorb much more cap space. The Nuggets want to push Al Harrington, Johan Petro and Billups onto the Nets and as of this moment, New Jersey is hesitating with Denver's new demands. I think Houston would be more than willing to take on any Denver wishes to throw their way if it means Melo. Still the Nets are the clear favorites to land Melo but don't sleep on Morey and the Rockets front office.
Yeah, that could backfire big time......but I think we could afford to lose Martin more than AB.... DD
You are insane. We have Lowery and Martin is a far superior player to Brooks. Aaron Brooks is a good player, but not terribly difficult to replace.
The rockets dont have anything denver wants in terms of talent. Lets say I play this futile fantasy game with clutchfans. Yao for Anthony works money wise. Martin for smith and birdman makes sense money wise. Hill or Patterson plus bud. So would you as a rockets fan be happy with Yao,Martin,Patterson or Hill, and Chase plus picks for anthony, smith, and birdman?
